She passed away suddenly Friday, December 18, 1981 at her home, at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 20 days. Mrs. Negim served for several months as the City of Potosi Community Development Block Grant Coordinator and Housing Assistance Program Director. Gladys, or "Sis" as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was very active in community affairs and was a charter member of the En Avant Society, M.F.W.C. She was a dedicated member of the Potosi Presbyterian Church where she had the honor of serving as a ruling Elder and was presently on the Sessions. She was united to Chester Negim on June 15, 1934 at Edwardsville, Illinois and two children were born to this union. Mr. Negim preceded his wife in death on January 4, 1960. She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard Frank Negim; three sisters, twins, Ruby and Ruth Summers, and Madeline Will. Those who remain to mourn her passing from this life are: one daughter, Verda Jane (Mrs. Arlon Wren) of Pekin, Ill.; four sisters: Virginia (Mrs. Lindy Jarvis), Venice, Florida; Freda (Mrs. George Foss) Potosi; Lillie Mae (Mrs. Paul J. Richeson), Hardy, Arkansas and Margaret Ann (Mrs. Duelyn Crawford) of Taylorville, Illinois; two grandsons, Stephen and Kelly Skaggs of Potosi; three step-granddaughters, Debbie Wren, Linda Coleman and Sue Copeland; two step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends who will sadly miss her. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 20 at Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Bert Bronaugh officiating. Interment was in New Masonic Cemetery, Potosi, under the direction of the Britton Bros. (Sparks) Funeral Home of Potosi. He was united in marriage to Laura LaChance on August ?, 1907, and to this union nine children were born: Opal (Mrs. Abrams), Louisville, Ky; Theodore, Harold, Amos, Evelyn (Mrs. Lester Saunchegraw), Katherine (Mrs. Kermit Manion), all of Potosi, and Alfred of Lemay. His wife, Laura, and two sons Clarence and Everett, preceded him in death. On October 28, 1956, he was united in marriage to Maggie Leach, who survives. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and united with the Free Will Baptist Church at Mine La Mote. In 1959 he became a member of the Potosi Baptist Church, where he remained a member until death. Surviving are his wife Maggie, seven children; 20 grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. The Rev. Albert Gibbs, pastor of the church performed the double ring ceremony. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Glore of Irondale was given in marriage by her father. Her white ballerina length gown of lace and net had a fitted bodice and long sleeves which tapered to a point at the wrist. Tiny covered buttons trimmed the front bodice and sleeves. Her shoulder length veil was held in place by a crown of white pearl orange blossoms and she carried a white Bible overlaid with a white orchid and white satin streamers. Her only jewelry was a pearl necklace, given to her by the groom. Miss Anna Horton, sister of the groom, was maid of honor. She wore a matching headdress, long white gloves and a corsage of white carnations. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Horton of Irondale. He chose Charles Brown of Irondale as best man. They wore dark trousers and white coats with white carnation boutonnaires. The candle-lighters were Edw. Pratt of Conway Springs, Kansas, brother-in-law of the bride, and Curtis Glore, brother of the bride. They also served as ushers. Mrs. Marilyn Ferrell sang, "Oh Promise Me" and while the couple knelt she sang the "Lord's Prayer". She was accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Emily Yeargain. The bride's mother wore a dark blue chiffon dress with white accessories and a corsage of white roses. The groom's mother chose a light blue dress with white accessories and wore a corsage of white roses. The reception was held following the service in the church parsonage. The centerpiece of the refreshment table was a beautiful four-tiered cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom. Mrs. Ellen Pratt of Conway Springs, a sister of the bride, and Mrs. Ruby Inman of Bonne Terre were in charge of serving the cake. Mrs. Carmen Young and Mrs. Doris Lily served the punch. The bride graduated from Leadwood High School in May, 1960. The bridegroom graduated from Leadwood in 1958. The happy couple will make a home in St. Louis. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Otto, of Scarsdale, N.Y., and Charles, of Columbia, Mo.; and three daughters, Virginia, of Michigan; Mildred, of Kirkwood; and Marjorie, of Cincinnatti, Ohio. Mr. McGuire, who was 74 years old, had suffered a stroke several months ago, and had spent some time in the Missouri-Pacific Hospital He had been Missouri-Pacific depot agent at Mineral Point for 30 years prior to his retirement, and served as Mineral Point correspondent to the "Independent Journal" for many years. Surviving are his wife, Elnora, and one aunt, Mrs. Hattie Hensley of Shreveport, La. The body lay in state at Donald Sparks Funeral Home in Potosi on Tuesday and Wednesday evening, and was to be removed to the McGuire home at Mineral Point today (Thursday). Masonic rites will be conducted there Thursday night. Funeral services will be conducted at the Mineral Point Methodist Church on Friday, with the Rev. Raymond Belfield officiating. The Rev. James Sweet officiated at the double-ring ceremony at 10:15. Immediately afterward a reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. August Fowler in Belgrade. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cruise Shelton of Belgrade, She was attended by her sister, Mrs. Robert Worden as Matron of Honor. Mrs. Worden wore a pastel blue dress with white accessories. The former Miss Shelton chose a gown of white silk organza with chantilly lace ruffles, bouffant style in the back. The Sabrina neckline was trimmed in matching lace, also the elbow length sleeves. A crown of seed pearls held her fingertip illusion veil and she held a small white Bible, decorated with a white orchid and white satin streamers. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Lelia White and the late Cecil White of Belgrade. His grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John W. White of Potosi. Serving as best man was his brother, John White. All men in the wedding party wore dark business suits with white carnation boutonnaires. After a short wedding trip, the newlyweds will return to Belgrade to live. Mr. White will attend the Community College at Flat River this fall. H. and Sarah Settle Stuart was born August 26, 1865 at Old Mines, and departed this life August 8, 1960 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was united in marriage to Firmin L. Maxwell, March 4, 1891 who preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1920. To this union were born four sons, Carl (now deceased), Earl of Payette, Idaho, William of Waitsburg, Wash., and Curtis of Caledonia. She joined the church in young womanhood and remained a faithful member until her death. She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, four daughters-in-law, 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends. Her body lay in state at the White Funeral Home at Ironton until Tuesday afternoon. The funeral was held at the Caledonia Methodist Church by Rev. Gibbs, pastor of Belleview Methodist, in the absence of the pastor, Rev. J. P. Sweet at 2 o'clock. The body was then returned to the funeral home to await the arrival of her son, Mr. and Mrs. William Maxwell of Waitsburg, Wash., with his daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Short of Pasco, Washington, Curtis Maxwell, Jr. of Fairview. Burial was Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the family lot in the Methodist Cemetery, A short graveside service was held at this time. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday at the Caledonia Methodist Church with the Rev. James P. Sweet officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Caledonia Presbyterian Cemetery.
