    1. Misc testimony from John Barron's Pension File
    2. Christine Lembeck
    3. John Barron died November 16, 1900. At the time of his death he was receiving his civil war pension. He had some difficulty getting his pension because his enlistment name was spelled BAIRON and not Barron. After his death, his widow, Mary Barron (nee McPhee) had to prove their marriage and births of their children. They were not Catholic so there wasn’t a baptism record for any of them. August 10, 1903 Mary Barron remarried to Joseph Trokey. They divorced March 10, 1916. She then reapplied for John Barron’s pension… with a lot of difficulty she got it. It was a mess. March 31, 1891 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, JOHN L. PAUL, aged 36 years, a resident of Summit, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… and FRANK GOVERO, aged 47 years, a resident of Summit, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri….. “That they have been well and personally acquainted with John Barron for 25 years, and 29 years, respectively, and that now have worked with him at mining at various times and have seen him almost continually for the above named dates and know that he is broken down in the back and that he is not able to work more than ¼ of his time, also that he is partially deaf.” John was disabled with piles while on duty at Smithland, Kentucky, about March 1861. At Brownsville Station, Arkansas, about August 1863, he disabled with chills, fever, loss of eye sight and hearing. January 21, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, ELIZABETH HOMAN, aged 52 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… and JOHN L. PAUL, aged 52 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri….. “We live near neighbors to Mary Barron… the property owed by Mary Barron is 23 acres situated in Sec.19, Twnshp 37, Range 3… not worth more than $60.00 (Note:WOW ) January 26, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, MOSES COOK, aged 78 years, a resident of Mineral Point, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I lived a near neighbor to John Barron from the year 1868 to about the year 1887. I was well acquainted with the first wife of John Barron. Her name was Catherine (Brundle). I saw her frequently during her last illness and saw her body after death. I also assisted in digging a grave in which she was buried and attended the funeral, about the 28th day of September 1869.” January 31, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, CHARLES WILLIAMS, aged 49 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “I hold the office of coroner of Washington County.. that on the 16th day of November 1900 I held an inquest over the dead body of the said Barron….the deceased arose at the usual time on the morning of 16th of Nov…dressed himself and walked out into the yard and failed to return to breakfast. Soon after breakfast one of his children went out into the barn yard and found his body lying near a cabin used as a hen house.. cause of death from heart disease… February 13, 1901 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, JOHN EVENS, aged 63 years, a resident of Mineral Point, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I have been well and personally acquainted with John Barron for 50 years and that the John Barron and I were raised near each other (we lived about one mile apart)…” March 27, 1901 "personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, BENJAMIN DAVIDSON, 66 years, a resident of Potosi, in the County of Washington, and State of Missouri… “That I have been well and personally acquainted with Mary Barron for 36 years and that the said Mary Barron was never married prior to her marriage to John Barron…. My means of knowing this is derived from having a long acquaintance with Neil McPhee, her father, and from the fact that Mary worked as a domestic in my family before she was grown….” February 16, 1901 “MARGARET A. MARLLER, of Hopewell, Missouri….. I was present at the births of the same in the capacity of midwife….for the births of Clara Barron, born October 28, 1888, Pearl L. born October 21, 1890 and Martin born May 22, 1892. I was not present for the birth of Mary L. born October 15, 1886, but called the following day. Mrs. Celeste Huddleston, who officiated as midwife at the birth, died about two years ago…” --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars? Find out at Yahoo! Autos

    1. Testimony from Wm. Barron's Civil War Pension File
    2. Christine Lembeck
    3. I have civil war pension files from my Barron ancestors. Not only are they interesting to read but they all contain testimony from their neighbors and/or friends from the Washington County area… some of the testimonies may be from your ancestors. From the Civil War pension file of William Barron William Barron died October 8, 1870, according to his widow, Josephine Bass (nee Hindman). They were married December 31, 1867 and had one child, Mary Ann, born November 1, 1868. The pension claim was rejected because Josephine remarried April 7, 1872, to John Bass. The following testimonies are from people that once lived in Washington County and knew William Barron. April 29, 1895 “personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, Mary Ann Murphy, aged 58 years, a resident of East Carondelet, in the County of St. Clair, and State of Illinois… and George Cook, aged 50 years, a resident of East Carondelet, in the County of St. Clair, and State of Illinois….. I, MARY ANN MURPHY, say that I was well acquainted with William Barron that I lived about two hundred yards from them. I visited him every day during his sickness and closed his eyes when he died and saw him buried in the public grave yard about two miles from Potosi, Washington, MO, near where he lived. My husband Nathan Harris, dug the grave with George Cook. It has been so long since that I cannot remember the date or year. I, GEORGE COOK, say that I was well acquainted with William Barron and saw him during his last illness and when he died dug the grave with Nathan Harris and saw him buried in the grave yard about two miles from Potosi Washington Co., MO. I don’t recollect the date or year as it has been so long ago. February 3, 1890 “personally appeared before me, Justice of the Peace, in the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths, WILLIAM J. SUTTON, aged 58 years, a resident of Belgrade, in the County of Washington, State of Missouri…. I was personally acquainted with William Barron before he enlisted in the U.S. Service and know that he was a member of Company I, 8th MO Infantry Vols and I was a member of the same company and regiment… about the 10th of June 1862 near Corinth Mississippi the said William Barron was taken sick. I was wagon master at that time and took William Barron in one of my wagons and hauled him for several days….. the wagon William Barron was in ran off of a small bridge and turned over and fell on him and bruised him up considerably. He was unfit for duty from that time until his discharge. He complained of his breast hurting him and had a bad cough… his lungs was badly affected. --------------------------------- What are the most popular cars? Find out at Yahoo! Autos
