    1. [MOWASHIN] Property purchase taxes 1899?
    2. Kay Clerc
    3. Does anyone know if taxes were paid on property purchases in 1899?  (I don't mean annual taxes - which I know existed; I mean sales tax.)   Every time I see something like this, back to back - I wonder why Knorpp didn't just pay $1100 and Mueller pay $1 (assuming H.A Mueller and Rosina Mueller are related). I see other properties exchanging hands for $1, though most are between father/son or close family members, so $1 might just be the formality of changing names on deed vs avoiding sales tax?  Just curious...   Jefferson County, MO Conveyances - Feb 1899: Rosina MUELLER to Wm. J. KNORPP, 120 acres, S20 T40 R5….$2500. Wm. J. KNORPP to H.A. MUELLER, lot in DeSoto….$1400.

Author: posterone Surnames: NEWCOMER, BURFORD, LONER, MCCABE, SILVEY, SCHLOSSER, GORHAM, COOK, WRIGHT Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.missouri.counties.washington/8019/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Linda Mae Newcomer of Potosi, Missouri departed this life on August 6, 2012 at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center having reached the age of seventy two years, four months and twenty seven days. She was born on March 10, 1940 at Pond Creek, Missouri, a daughter to the late Clarence E. Newcomer and Edna K. (Burford) Newcomer. Linda was a member of the Potosi Presbyterian Church and the Potosi Lioness. Linda began teaching school in Washington County in the late 1950's. She loved even the most difficult of her students. Many lives were touched by her kindness and her caring attitude during the nearly forty years she taught. Linda retired in 1993. In her life, Linda was always the mothering type always the caregiver. She lived her life at home with her mother and father. Linda took good care of her parents until there passing. She will be remembered by many for a multitude of reasons. A fond memory of Linda was that on Christmas Eve, she would gather as many nieces and nephews as possible along with her two younger sisters and drive around Potosi trying to "spot" Santa's sleigh while the other adults put toys together. Linda will be missed, but her love will live within us and the many things she taught us will never be forgotten. During the summer, Linda and her mother loved to travel to visit far away relatives or Historical Sites in different states while her dad held down the farm. She loved those times with her mom and they always made sure the nieces and nephews were welcomed along, as well as her younger sisters. Later in life, Linda's nephew, Kirk, was their new companion during these trips. Linda will always be an inspiration to her younger sister Sally. Her faith in the Lord was unstoppable. When her health began to fail, she was still a rock for those who loved her. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her two sisters Sally Loner and husband Wayne of Mineral Point; Lydia Joan McCabe of Festus; two aunts Louise Newcomer of Potosi; Beverly Newcomer of Potosi; two nieces Kathy Silvey and husband Kelly of Potosi; Angie Schlosser and husband Mick of Potosi; nephew Jeff Newcomer and wife Pam of Festus; special nephews Josh Newcomer of St. Louis; Kirk Gorham of Potosi; Craig McCabe of Festus; Seth Gorham of Potosi; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by a brother Wayne Newcomer; three uncles Lafayette L. Newcomer, Alfred Newcomer, Homer Newcomer; three aunts Mae Burford and husband Bruce, Annie Cook and husband Claude, Jennie Wright and husband Buster; many aunts and uncles. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, August 10, 2012 at 10 AM at the DeClue Chapel with Elder Leonard Compton officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Wayne Loner, Josh Newcomer, Kirk Gorham, Seth Gorham, George Burford and Mick Schlosser. Interment and final prayers were held at the New Masonic Cemetery.
