I have corresponded recently with War History Online who contributed a picture for me to use in my article “Carnage At The Crossroads”. And they are now publishing my article on their web site! They are doing it in 4 parts – parts 1 & 2 have already been posted, parts 3 & 4 will be posted soon. People are very interested in it & they are getting LOTS of hits. I’ve worked very hard on this article for over a year & am still researching. Out of all the articles I’ve written over the last 40 years I think this is my best work yet. But I am still hurt & disappointed that when I posted about it on Facebook sometime ago (last December near the anniversary date of the event) only about 7 or 8 people out of over 300 friends on my two Facebook pages bothered to read it or post a tribute to Sgt. Cash on Find-A-Grave. I have added more to the article since then & it is now basically complete. I have also added a Guestbook to the “Carnage At The Crossroads” page for people to easily sign free of charge & no registration necessary. I sent all of the letters & other items of Sgt. Cash that my mother kept all those years to the Baugnez44 Historical Center which is a museum at the Baugnez Crossroads in Belgium where Sgt. Cash was murdered by Nazis. Mathieu Steffens of Baugnez44 said they will make a special display with them in rememberance of Cecil & will send pics to me & will post them on their web site. I have also submitted the article to our local newspaper “The Independent Journal” & they are publishing it in several parts. So after almost 70 years T/4 Sgt. Cecil J. Cash is finally getting the recognition he deserves! http://www.warhistoryonline.com/war-articles/carnage-crossroads-malmady-massacre-part-2.html Esther M. I have been trying to put this together for years and haven't come to a conclusion. This all takes place in St. Francois Co. My husband's Great Great Grandparents were Berry Landsom Snyder b 1849 and Melissa Ann Cook b 1845 Their children were: William Washington, John Henry, Ida Belle who married Albert Valentine Smith (my husbands great grandparents), Julia who married an Edison, James, Effie who married a Papin, Rosa who married Abe Eaton, George Allen, Ella and Malinda who married a Vandiver and a May. My question is about George b 1880, lived in Desloge. I have his obituary stating he was married to Clara Humphrey in 1951. It states the following children by a previous marriage, Mrs. Lynn Smith of Bonne Terre, Marvin Snyder of Irondale, Amiel Snyder of FL and Ruby Byrd of NY. Then I have another obituary of a Mrs. George Snyder (Nettie Mathis b 1886, d 1935). The obituary says she married George Snyder 1933 and had 2 sons from a previous marriage, Luther Whaley and Walter Whaley. The children's names do not match up with the previous Snyder. Sounds like 2 different George Snyders. Now here's where I really get confused..................... My side of the family from Washington Co., Mo. My grandmother was Gertrude Portell who married Walter Boyer. She had a couple of sisters who married men from St. Francois Co. Lorene Portell who married Sam Mills. And another sister, Nellie who was married to Sam Whaley. At some point she married George Snyder and then died. George Snyder married her sister Victoria Portell (John Jefferson Tucker was her husband at one time) and then they divorced. I can't figure out which George Snyder my great aunts were married to. I thought possibly Nettie is really Nellie who had been married to Sam Whaley, but the obituary says Nettie's parents were Thomas and Julia Mathis. I have Victoria Snyder's death certificate and it states her husband is George Snyder. Would appreciate any insight. Thank you, Sharon

But this connection explains my g-g-g grandfather's connection to the Gibsons in his household about 1850 in Missouri - Demarcus Walker with wife Mary Ann Walker had grandchildren with a Gibson name in this census. Nancy Ann Gregory's husband was James Alexander Callahan. Their daughter Nancy Ann Callahan was my g-grandmother and married my g-grandfather John Wesley Walker (she was 2nd wife). My family is the Gibson Family. Transcribed just above the name of James Gibson in the 1830 census (see above), is the name of Gideon Wood and several Gregory families. Below is the probated will of Dorcas Gregory. James Gibson and Gideon Wood's names are listed in the probated will. ** An assumption: being listed in the probate would generally indicate some form of family association, or business or ties. To date...the tie is unknown. One possibility: A Benjamin Gregory b. 1819 Kentucky m. Lucinda Gibson. It is presumed Lucinda ids the daughter of Valentine Gibson and Mary Wyatt....they are also the parent of the James Gibson listed herein. James is my 3x great grandfather. Not only have my tombstone pics been used but now people are going for my scenic pics too! So I am making some changes on http://www.carrollscorner.net/ Please read below: NOTICE: I have been doing genealogy research for over 40 years & I put blood, sweat, tears, heart & soul into my work. I have been generously providing my research for free on this site since 1998. I have never denied anyone the use of my material & all I ever asked was that appropriate acknowledgement of their source be provided with whatever it is they use from this site. Lately I have been having a significant problem with people using my pictures & posting them elsewhere on the inter-net under their name & not crediting me or this site as their source. This gives the impression to those that don't know that that person was the photographer. Therefore I am in the process of installing several security measures & making other changes in the protocol of this site. Anyone wanting to use anything from this site must now contact me personally & get my permission. Also, anyone wanting to use a photograph(s) is being asked to make a $5 donation per picture plus provide acknowledgement of their source. Also, I am now accepting donations to apply to the rental space for this site. Due to the economy it is becoming more & more difficult to come up with the $$ for this & I really don't want to have to resort to allowing advertising here or removing the site from the net. Donald and PL Greenlee: Thank you for this help! What I'm trying to find reminded me of a simple converted slide show type presentation. It was in a simple story type format and referred to tiff mining, soil content and life in general during early mining days (as best as I can recall). It seems (although my memory is very fuzzy on this), that someone had either obtained it and or found it Via the State Historical Society, possibly thru the Western Manuscript collection? If this rings a bell, please let me know. I could be remembering incorrectly that it came from a mailing list. It's possible it was from a blog type list, although I seldom scan thru any of those.... At the time I saw it, 2 thoughts crossed my mind - - 1. it was interesting because I had early mining ancestors in both St Fran and Washington Co's -2. I wondered (and leaned toward) the possibility that this may have been what was referred to in regard to the mention of Frank Magre’s research/valuable slides (when he assisted Miss Valle Higginbotham in her book on John Smith -T.
