We're thinking about taking a trip by car this spring (May works out best for us) and I've been talking to hubby about going to Missouri this time. He said for me to find out where I can find info about my McKee family while there. What I really want to find info on is the old newspapers that might be available for Nevada, Missouri. That's the area where my family was living for several years and is probably where my great grandfather died. I want to search through old newspapers (microfilm is fine) to find obits or stories. What newspapers are available? How far back? I need 1878-79 and perhaps a little later. I'm looking for the death of Andrew H. McKee, date and burial place. And would like to find out when Jane McKee, Andrew's mother, died. I'm also interested in 1867 in case I can find info on the death of my grandfather's brother, Andrew H. McKee Jr. who is buried in Beloir cemetery. Is there an active genealogical society in Nevada, MO? Does anyone on this exchange actually live there now? I'd appreciate any suggestions as we begin making our plans. I've tried to borrow newspapers on microfilm via my public library & Interlibrary Loan but it's almost impossible. Apparently Missouri will only allow our public library to have 3 rolls of film at a time for the entire library system and we are a city of about 150,000 people. I've tried and tried to borrow film with no results - and, usually after two years, they tell me they just aren't available! Thus it seems that going to the source is my only solution. Besides, I think it would be a great trip. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
