    1. McKEE/CAMPBELL
    2. Patricia Bauer
    3. My grandfather's half sister, Sarah Jane Francis McKEE, married William Henry CAMPBELL 5 Oct 1871 in Nevada City, Vernon, MO. Sarah was probably 17 at the time of her marriage. That is the last information I can find on them. I was raised by my grandparents and he was very close to his two half brothers (Joe and Bill) but this sister was never mentioned. Perhaps she died during childbirth or moved away and they lost contact. Sarah was the daughter of Andrew McKEE (my great grandfather) and his first wife, Martha THOMPSON. Martha died in 1857 shortly after the birth of their third child. I did find Martha's burial record at the Montrose Mound, Deepwater TWP, Henry County, MO cemetery. A caucasian, she was apparently the first person buried in this old, overgrown cemetery and it is now listed as an African American cemetery. If anyone has heard of the McKee/Campbell family, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I have information on the rest of the family. 3. Janis, I am NOT personally researching this family, but Did John Westly have a brother Benjamin? I don't know what area Woodson county KS is, but I have a book of KS troops that fought in the Spanish Philippine war 1898 - 1899 and it lists a Benjamin McGOWAN . I can send you benjamins info if you like. This book is unindexed and lists each regiment (20th 21st, 22nd &23rd) seperately. I'm still looking to see if John Wesly shows up. 1. Need a paid researcher
    2. I, like David Strain, would like to find someone who would be willing to do some research in Vernon Co. MO for the period 1880 - 1900 on the McGehee family for me. I certainly would expect to pay. I have contacted the Bushwhacker Museum genealogy area, specifically Terry Ramsey. He has checked the material in their files and went to the courthouse to get a copy of the Affidavit of Death, Intestacy and Heirs for Luco McGehee, dated 25 Jan 1931, and two newspaper accounts of the death of Luco McGehee, dated 25 & 26 Mar 1931. Luco is a son of Simeon H McGehee and Susanna Jane McCargo. I am interested in the parents Simeon H McGehee and Susanna Jane McCargo. I am descended from their daughter Emily Taylor McGehee, who married James C Brann in the 1850s in Weakley Co. TN and remained in TN. This couple were in Graves Co. KY in the 1870 Census and in Vernon Co. MO, Walker Township in the 1880 Census. Nancy Alexander, California

    1. Cemetery Lookup, Please
    2. Hi, Everyone and especially Craig, Today I had a chance to read the full 1880 Census record for Vernon Co. MO, township of Walker, taken June 28, 1880, where I found my S. H. McGehee, W M 60, bar tender, VA VA VA Susan , W F 59, wife, no occupation, consumption, VA VA VA Hester , W F 19, dau, Keeps house, TN VA VA Geo , W M 16, son, farm laborer, TN VA VA Haws, J M , W M 37, no relationship stated, farming, VA VA VA Since Susan McGehee is listed with consumption in 1880 and her daugher Hester is listed as keeping house, then I assume that Susan McGehee would have died soon thereafter. Will you please check the cemetery listings for a Susan McGehee, Susanna Jane McCargo McGehee, Mrs. Simeon H McGehee, or any other variation of her name. Thank you immensely, Nancy Alexander, California

    1. James Harvey STRAIN Marion, IN > Montgomery, MO
    2. Since my last posting here I have made some very good progress on my STRAIN line. I wish to post my findings to see if I can gather up any more kin. I also hope to correct some errors and inconsistencies that I have found in various message boards, the Ancestral File, IGI and to confirm some uncertainties expressed by some. 1. James Harvey STRAIN did in fact marry Lydia ARISMAN on 14 Jul 1842 in Indianapolis. Source: Obits for James Harvey and Lydia STRAIN 2. James Harvey's Obit says he took care of 4 grandchildren. I've been told all 4 were kids of Mary Strain BROWN, and named Gertie, John, Irene and Lawrence. I have been able to find only 3 BROWN kids and they are named Lidda, Mary and John. One of those grandchildren would have been James Joseph Henry STRAIN, son of Joseph Marion STRAIN. Three BROWNs plus 1 STRAIN equals four grandchildren. SOURCE: 1880 census of Montgomery Co., MO, JHSTRAIN Obit 3. James Harvey DID NOT die in 1897. He died Feb 26, 1901. Moved to Montgomery Co., MO in 1859. Born 11 Dec 1823 Marion Co., IN SOURCE: JHSTRAIN Obit 4. Lydia Arisman STRAIN died 1897, specifically on the Monday before 16 July 1897. Born 1820 in Virginia. SOURCE: LASTRAIN Obit 5. Note that the family of James Harvey is enumerated twice in 1880, in each of Montgomery and Prairie Twps. 6. JH and Lydia had 8 children: (not in any particular order) Mary (BLACKSHAW), Joseph Marion, Jane (BROWN), Nelson Clark, Charles Wilson, Louisa Ellen (WORLAND), and two more that I am trying to nail down positively. Joseph Marion and the last two were the only ones to predecease James Harvey. Ancestral File has just about every child dead before JH. SOURCE: JHSTRAIN Obit. 7. Louisa Ellen married James Harrison WORLAND, not Worsley as has been reported. Their children were Annie (LANSING), Rosie (METCALF), Sarah (BONNELL), Mary (SEAL), and Margaret. NOTE: METCALF has strong ties to JENKINS and STRAIN in Montgomery and Audrain Cos., MO. 8. Joseph Marion is just that, not James A., married Sarah COPELAND. JM died in the 1890s. I am trying to get a hard date on this. They had 7 kids, only 2 alive in 1900 Louisa and James Joseph Henry. They were in Vernon Co., MO in 1870 and 1880. I am working on confirming the marriage and decendancy of Louisa now. I feel that the other 5 kids died young, however there are some unconnected STRAINs living in Vernon COunty that I am working on. Joseph possibly served in 83rd Ind. Inf. in the Civil War. He moved to Vernon Co. and married in 1869. Now my line: James Harvey 1823-1901 m. Lydia Arisman 1820-1897 Joseph Marion 1844-189x m. Sarah COPELAND J.J.H. 1876-1933 m. Lucy JENKINS F.M. 1903-1981 m. Mary METCALF 1904-1981 D.F. 1933-1988 m. E.I. Living 1936- me I will glady provides copies of whatever I have to anyone interested. I would also gladly receive anything related to this family that anyone would care to share. I'm posting this message in as many boards and lists as I can find to help, get a corrected version of this info as widely dispersed as possible. David Strain ddstrain@aol.com

    3. Surnames: MCCULLY MCCULLA COFFMAN MATHEWS BENHAM Submitter: Ed Miller (ozarkemiller@earthlink.net) Date: 25 Jul 2001 I'm looking for any information on a family of Vernon County named MCCULLY or MCCULLA. My maternal grandmother, Iva Francis, was born 2 Mar 1883 in Carbon Center. Oddly, my mother's birth certificate reads her mother's name as "Myrtle McCulla", though other sparse documents give her name as "McCully." Her married name was "Benham." My Iva had at least two sisters; Edna, who marr COFFMAN and lived in Butler until her death about 1967, and Verna, who marr MATHEWS and lived in Nevada (MO). She passed away abt the 1950's. She may have also had at least one brother, whose name was "Roy." My Iva's death certificate leaves blank her father's name, and her mother's maiden name. Any assistance/advise will be immensely appreciated!
