    3. To anyone interested in the county maps: I just received this message from Terry at the Bushwhacker Museum. Send mail orders and make payments to: Vernon County Historical Society, 231 North Main St. Nevada, MO 64772 Molly ----- Original Message ----- From: Bushwhacker Museum To: molly gardner Sent: Thursday, February 14, 2002 11:54 AM Subject: Re: Maps Molly, We have plat maps for 1876 and 1886 that are copied onto standard 8 1/2 x 11 paper that sell for $6.00 each we also have copies of the 1903 plat map that measures 11 x 18 and shows the plates for the county towns and is indexed. It is spiral bound and sells for $20.00. I love using the 1903 because everything is so easy to read and the fact that it is indexed is WONDERFUL. There is a $2.00 postage and handling charge however if more than one item is mailed to the same address the additional maps have only a $1.00 p/h fee each. Hope you are having a fun Valentines Day Terry

    1. Plat book info & another Vernon Co. sites
    2. Here is a site with Vernon Co., MO information. http://www.rootsweb.com/~movernon/ This is the site about the plat maps: http://www.rootsweb.com/~movernon/vcinfo.html *** last year when I was back there (Nevada, MO) the 3 plat books there were selling for: 1876 plat book sold for $7.00 the 1886 plat book sold for $5.00 [both of these books are about 8" x 12" , and each township is on seperate page.] The 1903 plat book now sells for $20.00 is about 12" x 18" much easier to read and it has a index with names of land owers in. It also has a map of the layout of the towns***

    3. You can get more information on the land ownership maps by e-mailing the museum. Go to www.bushwhacker.org and click on the email link. They also have a great collection of books on the early days of Vernon County. The video is well worth the money. Molly Gardner

    1. plat maps
    2. For the plat maps, there is a 1876, a 1886 about 8 X 12 in size for each township in Vernon Co.. The 1903 one is larger and much easier to read, plus it has a index in it with names of land owners. With the 1903 one after you find what township a person lives and section then it it much easier to find things in the other two. Who are you looking for?

    3. Stephen, I have the Vernon County maps that you mentioned. Yes, they show every township in the county and have the names of the landowners written on the section of land that they owned at the time. Mine is the 1876 map. It is well worth the small investment. You get several pages showing all the townships. Do you subscribe to the Bushwhacker Musings? It is the Vernon County Historical Society quarterly magazine. It is great and you can post quires. Go to their website at www.bushwhacker.org and you can probably join on-line. It's only $10 a year. Good luck, Molly Gardner

    3. ----- Original Message ----- From: Stephen Carlile To: movernon-l@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 4:09 PM Subject: 1893 BackTaxes Index Again on the website is a 1893 back taxes index that gives a name and page number of (I assume) the delinquent tax payer. Is there anyone on this list that has access to the back tax list that can look up a name and the info associated with it? If so I saw the name Ragan who was listed on page 140. Thank you very much.

Does anyone know if this covers the entire county, or certain townships and not others. For $5.00 it seems like a good price if it covers every landowner in the county. If anyone has seen these maps please let me know. Thanks.

    3. Sue, Carbon Center is located in the very Northern part of Vernon County. If you are going south of Rich Hill, Mo on 71 Hwy, when you get to a big curve (right before it goes over railroad tracks) you go to the east, I can't remember the name of the road but it is a blacktop. Now how is that for Hillbilly directions. Yes there is a cemetery located there as I remember it. Seems like there is an old church building still standing or was about 15 years ago. That is the last time I was over that way.
