Good morning listers. My name is Don Kelly and I admin the ARGenWeb website for Franklin County, Arkansas. I am new here, but I have tons of cousins who at one time lived in Tyrone, MO. Here is a brief record....starting in Tennessee: Many Tennessee Rutledge families seem related to Rutledge brothers Thomas F., Lorenzo Dow, Emanuel and their sister Lucy, all of Hawkins County, TN. Thomas and wife Wilson's children were Nancy, Stephen, Sarah, Joseph, Mary and Cornelius. Stephen Rutledge and wife Wilson were my 4gparents. In 1851 3gfather Stephen in his diary said that he traveled by horseback from Pikeville, Bledsoe County, TN south to Sequatchie County to witness the hanging of a murderer named Godfry. While crossing the river he rescued his future wife Mary who's horse had foundered in mid stream and threw her into the water. As she caught her breath she stated she was Mary Massey from Sequatchie. Stephen was about eighteen years old and Mary about sixteen years old when they got married in 1851. That same year they apparently moved to Henryville in Lawrence County, TN. 1852 Mary was born in Henryville, Lawrence County, Tennessee, but died young. Chronology of birth records at this point gets more confusing. 1853 John B. Rutledge was born in (unknown county) Alabama. In 1873 John married a Roark in Tyrone, MO. Two Alabama counties are close to Lawrence county, so best guess is John was born in either Lauderdale or Limestone counties which are immediately south of Giles and Lawrence Counties. We need to document where. 1855 Sarah is born in Giles County, TN. In Tyrone about 1875 Sarah married a Marsee. 1858 Virginia is born, but died young. 1860 Chelnessee is born in Lawrence County, TN. In Tyrone 1876 she married Henry Mentlo Owen. The Owen family came from Smith County, TN. Stephen was in the Army, captured at Ft. Donaldson, released by prisoner exchange in Arkansas, captured again in Georgia 1863, but he and a friend escaped from the prison train and walked through occupied territory home to Tennessee. 1864 James (Harve) Rutledge born. He later married a Quackenbush...Probably Tyrone. 1867 Jerome Rutledge born. He married a Urbeck....probably Tyrone. NOTE: Jerome may have been the minister at Elk Creek Baptist Church. Is Elk Creek near Tyrone? After 1867 Stephen moved his family to Tyrone, Texas County, MO where four more children were born. 1869 Flora born. Married a McKinney. 1872 William born. Married a Morgan. 1874 Martha born. Married a Wilkerson. 1877 Theresa born. Married a Kyger. Some of these kids may have married in Dent County instead of Tyrone.....but yet not researched yet. Some may have later moved to Texas, California or Washington State. 1876 in Tyrone Missouri Chelnessee Rutledge married Henry Mentlo Owen. Henry was born in Smith County, TN. We don't know when the Owen's arrived in Tyrone. NOTE: Another family of relatives by marriage is the Lay Family. The infamous Ken Lay may be a cousin, but so far that is scuttlebut. Henry and Chelnessie had ten children starting in Tyrone and ending in Benton County, Arkansas. Henry died 1924? and Chelnessie 1937. Daughter, Sarah Flora Owen Kelly, born Tyrone ca 1885 was my grandmother. There are a lot of surnames here and we hope some listers may be related and can fill in some of the gaps. Can anyone connect these dots. Thanks a bunch. Don Kelly of Kelly, Owen and Rutledge
