The Ramseys were residents of Texas Cty since the 1860s and they had 15-16 children. Their daughter married a Smith in 1887 or 1888. They had two children both born in/around Roubidoux, MO. Viola Mae b. 1890 (who married Charley Lee Jackson of the John Clayborn Jackson family) and a son Frank b. 1892. By abt 1894 Margaret had married Frank Saladin (who adopted the children). Supposedly Margaret made the run into Oklahoma Territory in 1896 and lived in Woods County from 1896 until her death in 1941. Saladin was an onery character and forbade any talk of Smith or Jackson families. Family stories say that Smith was part Indian (Cherokee) and that a grandmother was on the Trail of Tears. All indian records were destroyed by one of the sons of Viola as he was always hassled for being a "half-breed" in Oklahoma in the 1940s. He is still living and still refusing to discuss any indian blood. Oddly enough he wants the picture of "Trails End" on his tombstone. I guess in the end he wants to acknowledge his indian heritage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
