    1. [MOTEXAS] Watts Collection: Taylor Record Example
    2. Caitanya
    3. Hi Lisa: I'm sorry if my posting misled you into thinking that I have the microfilm...I received 7 rolls of film through interlibrary loan, they were returned some weeks ago. Did you take a minute to check out the web site address I posted? You can see more clearly what might be there from the description offered by the Western Historical Manuscripts Collection. As I mentioned, there are 38 notebooks and, as far, as I could tell, the typed index was not complete for all 38. While working with them, I found many names in the notebooks that do not occur on the typed index which was prepared for the microfilming. In fact, it appears to relate only to the first couple of notebooks. Nevertheless, there are 74 Keeney's on this typed index. None, however, are for Bluford A or Eliza J. There are four listings in the index for Abner Martin Keeney, two of them are for a man born 1870 and two for a man married 1894. I assume, but don't know, that they all refer to the same individual but may be different information since three locations in the records are noted. Since I don't have access to the microfilm anymore, I don't know anything more about him. Because so much data in these notebooks is not indexed in an easily accessible manner, it will take you a while to find what's there that might relate to your family but you may find i! t well worth the effort. Much of it appeared to be the type of info that would not be found outside family records. For example: "John Langdon Taylor, was born in Rutherford Co. NC Dec 20th 1822. Died ner Rock Spring Church in Texas Co. Mo, April 13th 1880 aged 57 ys, 3 ms, & 23 ds. Martha Elizabeth (McCurrey) wife of John L. Taylor was born in Rutherford Co. NC Oct 10th 1831. They were married in Rutherford Co. NC Feb 8th 1849. Their Children 2 oldest born in Sainte Genevieve Co, Mo. 3d 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th born in St Francois Co. Mo. 9th born in Phelps Co Mo. all the rest were born at the Homestead near (Blank area) PO in Texas Co, Mo." After this are listed all their children, including Elizabeth Ellen who died at 6 ys.7ms & 25 ds. and Jonah, died, aged 4 days. I hope this example gives you an idea of the kind of records that can be found in this collection of 38 notebooks, if you happen to be lucky..... I was wondering if you are able to do a lookup for me, if you could tell me anything about Bluford A. and Eliza J. Keeney's family. His father was Abner Keeney, also of Licking. Thank you for any help you can give me. Lisa [email protected]

    3. I don't know if your John H. Hayes is John Henderson Hayes, but he's one of the Hayes/Hays found in the John J. Watts Collection which is described at http://www.umr.edu/~whmcinfo/shelf2/r038/info.html Through interlibrary loan, I received seven microfilms...they are very time consuming to read but many of the names you all have been discussing in this thread are to be found there. Only one of the many, many lists in these 38 notebooks has been typed up and alphabetized, hence the time consuming and totally enjoyable task of reading more slowly than I would have done otherwise. Someone on this list recommended a few months ago that I find this Collection and I want to thank them for their suggestion even though I didn't find the information I thought I was looking for here. What I did find was one man's opinion of what family information was important to make note of in these counties and it was fascinating. I found myself making copies of some documentation simply because I know that the descendants of some of these people would have no idea to look here...from Germany, for example or even North Carolina. And some of the family stories were simply too interesting to leave there... Good Luck with your hunt, Saralie

    1. [MOTEXAS] Old newspapers and Oxley family
    2. Dean Powell
    3. In the mid 1990's I read the Cabool Enterprise newspaper from 1906 (1909 to part of 1913 is missing on microfilm) to 1940. I made hundreds of copies. We then extracted all of our HOUSE family (dad's) and made a book of it for our House families. We then extracted all of the Fielden/Caylor/Wood families (mom's) and made books. James and Elizabeth Hart Coats are also my mom's g grandparents, haven't had the nerve to tackle them yet, BIG family. There is a mixture of Coats, Hart, Forrester and Crawford in that family. There are copies of both books we made in the Texas Co., MO Historical and Genealogical Society library. The Wilson and Elizabeth Carter Oxley family touch some of our family lines (we believe), through their son, Wiley W. Oxley. There is a marriage for W. W. Oxley to Eliza C. Bailey 24 Nov., 1891, both are from Cabool, Texas Co., MO. We know that Wiley W. Oxley and second wife, Martha, children Retta, John W., Thomas B. and Lettie (Lilly) A. are living in Neosho Co., KS in the 1880 census. John W. Oxley was born in MO. We "believe" that the Wiley W. Oxley who homesteaded in 1890 near Greenwood church is this Wiley and that Martha died and Wiley W. remarried. Their son, John W. Oxley met and married Margaret Ward (Margrett M. on tombstone) and they lived on her folks home until Margaret's death in 1935. She and John W. are buried in Union Cemetery, Texas Co., MO. 1900 Cass Twp, Texas Co., MO census shows Milton Bailey head of house, wd and 3 children. Living with him are Eliza C. Oxley wd and sister to Milton Bailey (Wiley W. Oxley is "thought" to have died before 1900 census) and Minnie Mathis, niece and single. "Dove" Bailey Oxley is thought to be the third wife of Wiley W. Oxley and might "possibly" ?? be nickname for Eliza C. Bailey Oxley. The last that I find Dove Oxley is in the Dec. 7, 1916 Cabool Enterprise. It states in the Hamilton Creek News that "Aunt Dove Oxley and Aunt Tina Bailey spent Sunday night at the Tom House home." I know that at that time older women were often called "Aunt" and not really be related to writer of article. Tom House is my grandfather, Thomas Franklin House, s/o John and Martha Emaline Wood House. Can anyone tell me anything about Dove Oxley and Tina Bailey? Does anyone know when Dove died and what her complete name was? Could Dove be a nickname for Eliza C. Bailey Oxley? Does anyone know who Tina Bailey was? Marguerette House Powell

What I am was wondering if there could be a connection. Sometime in about 1850 - 1855 John and some of is family from Madison Co.Tenn. came to Mo.And it is my understanding that they all ended up in Texas Co.Mo. And reason that I ask about your James is because John named is son James Robert Elisa Henry Hays. Some in our side of the family spells it Hayes also . I still have kin in Texas Co. I will see what I can find. Shirley

    3. You can get a list of all the newspapers that the Missouri Historical Society has on microfilm from them. I have never gotten a list for Texas County but I did get one for Dent County & am slowly going through the old newspapers. I have my local public library order a couple of rolls at a time as 2 rolls are the same price as one roll. Even when I don't find anything on my specific family I get a feel for the kind of lives and the mood of the times from these old papers & I love reading them. Vernetta > Did I miss something?
