Thanks to all who've sent me personal responses about my posts earlier this week...believe it or not, it helps a great deal to hear from every simgle one of you--I save all of your letters in a special file when you write me on something like this. I should remember to go back through that file on occasions I'm feeling low. Greg woke me this morning with the news of the Columbia. I watched the news channels for a little while, then decided to read my morning paper...and it made the news of LeBron James' ineligibility for high school sports the rest of this year, and "The Bachelor" Springfieldian Aaron Buerge's break-up with his fiancee' seem awful trivial...especially in view of the small, back-page news release of the Columbia's scheduled return to Earth this morning. How different tomorrow's newspaper will be. Historic events sometimes seem so small when they are actually happening, and you wonder if there'll be any impact on others far away, or on future generations. No doubt today's will have a lot of impact...I'm sorry for the families of those brave people. You tend to forget that travel in space is still fraught with peril, considering the apparent ease shown with details on most missions. We take a lot for granted.
