    1. Thurman Family
    2. Can anyone tell me if any Thurman descendants still live in Taney County? My gr-gr-grandmother, Martha Franklin Walker (1843 - 1890) married General W. Thurman (1837 - 1903) after my gr-gr-grandfather, Thomas H. Walker b. 1835 in Izard County, Arkansas, was killed in the Civil War. She had two children by Thomas Walker, Mary Jane Walker Gray (1860 - 1878) and my gr-grandfather, William Thomas Walker (1862 - 1945). Martha (who was said to have had "quite a bit of Indian blood") and General Thurman were found on the 1870 Census of Izard County with Jane and William and their infant daughter, Hannah Thurman. They moved to Taney County sometime after 1870 where General Thurman owned 380 acres around Branson. General and Martha had five more children: Lenora Thurman b. 1872; Sterling Thurman b. 1876; Theodore Thurman b. 1878; James Martin Thurman (1881 - 1941); and Lucy Thurman Hill b. 1883, wife of Green Hill. Sterling Thurman operated a grape farm around Forsyth. After Martha Franklin Walker Thurman's death in 1890, General Thurman remarried and had more children. If anyone has any information on any of this family, I would greatly appreciate it. Mike Walker
