Hi Mike, I do not still live in the area, but I will send you some info on your General Thurman. Yes, that was his name, not a rank. He had a son named Colonel with his first wife, Elizabeth. My link to the Thurman family is through Charles "Toney" Thurman b. 1882 MO, who married Alma Walker in 1900 Taney Co. Alma was a dtr of Lafayette Cook Walker and Mary DeWitt. I have not yet determined Charles' parents, but feel sure they link up somewhere with General's extended family. LC Walker's father was William Walker b. 1817 TN, who settled in Swan Twp, Taney Co. about 1845 with his wife, Sarah Wyatt. The Walker family is my BBW (Big Brick Wall) thanks to those burned Taney Co. courthouses, the last in 1885. Aside from BLM and a few scattered newspapers on microfilm, there are virtually no records from before 1885 to help me find where in TN they originated. As William and Sarah were married in TN about 1834 and your family was in AR at that time, there is probably no connection to our Walker families. Good luck in your quest.
