Hi Don, Thank you for your reply. I did see the site you mentioned, however, I guess I was wondering more in the line of, is there a local library there in Hollister, MO that might have old newspapers on microfilm. Our library here in Ohio has an obituary index that directs you right to the newspaper obit. Also, does Hollister have a health dept. that has early death records? Our county Health dept has death certificated beginning with 1909. thanks again, Maureen
Maureen: I am not aware of such a library at Hollister. The Taney County Library at Forsyth has an extensive collection of old Taney county newspapers on microfilm, and I believe they would be willing to check it out for you unfortunately, unless they've obtained it within the last couple of months, they don't have the equipmet there to print images from their microfilm. On the other hand, the College of the Ozarks library, at Point Lookout (near Hollister) has practically the same (perhaps even more) old newspaper microfilm and they also have printing capability. I've always done my own research at the C of O library, so I don't know if someone there would be willing do research for you, or not. You may want to check it out. The C of O library phone no. is: (417) 334-6411, Ext. 3411 The Forsyth library phone no. is: (417) 546-5257 I also doubt if Hollister has a department that would have old health records. I think my first query regarding old Taney health records would be at the county Public Administrator's Office.
