Have any of you Brown researchers come across a Holloway Brown, born 1797 in NC or TN? He married Mary Polly who was born in Tenn. Their daughter Mary E. (Polly Elvira), b. in TN. about 1847, was my GGrandmother. She married William Ragsdale in Lawrence Co., AR. Hollaway being an uncommon name, should be easy to spot but I haven't found him in any records. I suspect his mother was a Hollaway and I found lots of Hollaway's in the Monmouth Springs, AR area. Dolores, Were you able to find anything more about our Paul S. Longley Wilkin there at Prague? One of the gals at the historical society did send us a copy of his obit from the paper. It was on the front page & DOES have the name of the paper & where it was from. So I was right in what town he died. This paper has our Paul as last name Longley & another article on same page as Paul S. Wilkin, his adopted last name. Now if we could just find what cemetery he's buried in. Thanks for your help! On or about August 1888 near Taneyville John W Manes was in pursuit of a man named Brown, purportly a thief. Manes shot and killed Brown, but not before Brown shot Manes who was critically wounded, the neck of the bladder having been shot through. Manes was carried to Chub Bennett's two story house where he died a day later. It was said by the Manes family that the blood never did wash off the stairs. Does anyone know if that house is still standing? It is said to be off the side of the road at a big curve. Not sure if the incident took place near Taneyville or Kirbyville. Does anyone know anything about that house or that incident? Where is John W. Manes, Jr buried? Where did BRown get buried? Which family of Brown's did he belong to? I know I am related to Manes; I suspect that I may be related to Brown also. Sharon in AZ texsam@cox.net

Yes, it is - Thank you ever so much. I appreciate your help. Do you knoe anything about an old two story house near Kirbyville or Bradleyvilee - sits off a curve? Think it may used to have been the old Jennings (?) Place - but may have that wrong. One of my great uncles, John W Manes; is supposed to have been taken to that house were he later died - after being shot by a man named Brown and he had shot and killed Brown. Am trying to find where they were both buried. Also I am trying to discover the identity of the man named Brown and which family of Browns that he was from. May be related to him also? It is said that John Manes ' blood still stains the stairway of that two story house. Think that took place in the 1920's sometime. I don't suppose that you are familar with that story are you?
