Hello List Members: A few days ago I received a book I ordered - A Photo History Of Nixa and Vicinity by Wayne Glenn. If you have ties to the Christian County area you may want to get this book. It is one of the best I have ever seen! There are 350 pages of pictures, and stories. I highly recommend it. Mr. Glenn is working on another book now about the border area of Stone and Christian Counties. I can 't wait to see that one! For those interested I have made a web page with all the pertinent information. The direct URL is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mostone/authors/glenn.htm Jo
Try this website for a list of students of the Mincy School - 1897. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jmwtlw/taney_co_school.htm Hope this helps you. We could not see real well, but my wife's grandfather would have attended school there and we would like to know more. Has anyone written a history of that school or the Mincy area? Does anyone know who would be the caretaker of the school. We go to Branson occasionally and could arrange a trip to visit with them if so. Hello Group, I have been a lurker on this list for a while. My wife has ancestors that lived in near Mincy around the turn of the century and up until about 1920. We recently went to the Mincy area and visited the Cemetery there and found her great grandmothers grave. She was Grace Jane Caudle who married Andrew Mannon. Anyway we visited the courthouse in Forsythe and the library there and found people to be very helpful and friendly. Now I have a request. Does anyone have any information on the Mincy school? We were able to visit the school but of course it was locked and we could see through the windows and it looked as if almost a history of the schoolteachers was lettered on the chalkboard. We could not see real well, but my wife's grandfather would have attended school there and we would like to know more. Has anyone written a history of that school or the Mincy area? >> ...the only record I can find anywhere on the net is that he was a >> Union Soldier out of Taney County. Bill, I think you may have seen the roster at: http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/v1/n6/w62k.htm a search on the Captains name turned up this: Isaac N. Chenoweth - Isaac enrolled March 10, 1865, Forsyth, Taney Co., Missouri as a Private in CPT W.L. Fenix's Taney Co., MO, Volunteer Missouri Militia. Ordered to active duty on March 10, 1865 and relieved on April 9, 1865. Number of days actual service - 182(?) By the way... a search for "Weaver" at: http://thelibrary.springfield.missouri.org/lochist/periodicals/wrv/qwrv.htm gave 46 hits, although I didn't look through them all. Hi Jean - Just read your e-mail regarding your family & am not sure if there is any connection or not. I have the McPherson, Hammond, Johnson in my line & they were in the locations that you mention. I also remember my parents going to California & visiting with several of them. Mary Ann Jennings is the daughter of Jesse Martin Jennings and Lucinda Williamson. Lucinda was born January 1858 in Forsyth and Jesse Martin was born about 1845 in Tennessee. I was able to confirm Lucinda's birthdate from the 1900 census but have not located any confirmed information on Jesse Martin yet. Parents of Lucinda and Jesse Martin are unknown. The 1900 census showed Jesse Martin and Lucinda had the following children. All children were born in Forsyth to my knowledge. Virgil William - born Feb 1884 Mary Ann - born Jan 1886 Thomas Dee - born Dec 1887 John Roy - born Jan 1891 Sarah Maude - born May 1894 Francis Granville - born May 1896 Are there any connections? Hi Dana: Sorry, I don't have any Franks', but then I don't have much at all on my Brown family. I have the names of Holloway Brown's children and the names of the children of his son William, from another researcher, but there was no Frank there. The family line for Humphrey that moved to Prague are as follows.. Can you please let me know if any of them are listed? My grandfather was one of the older children and I believe one of his sisters is still alive and is living in Prague today. Lewis Edward Humphrey, son of James L. Humphrey and Martha Parilee Callen was born July 11, 1881 (along with a twin John). He married Mary Ann Jennings (she was born in Forsyth) and they moved to Prague and had the following children.. Clarence - born 1904 Florence Mae- born 1906 married Claude Wyatt Chestar Edgar - born 1908 married Alta Leah Ray Gladys Marie - born 1910 married Joseph Piter Agnes Loree - born 1912 married Clyde Ferguson Lula Edna- born 1914 married Floyd Goar Francis Leroy - born 1918 married Ted Fentress Kenneth Dee - born 1925 married Lou Castillo I believe James L. Humphrey is buried in Taney County somewhere and his wife Martha is buried outside of Prague somewhere (haven't found the cemetery yet). Lewis (Ed) and Mary are buried outside of Prague (I've visited their cemetery).. It would be great if my Humphrey line are mentioned in the History book! Please let me know! Thanks again for looking up this information! Well, Hey, Howdy! I know, I've been bad, but I really haven't had a lot of time to spend on the computer lately. Fall's not only arrived, but it's bringing winter news with it. We put the play on last month, as you know, and I went right to 40-hour weeks immediately afterwards. I know, most people work that much at their paying jobs, but I'm not used to it and it's taken me some time to adapt--I'm on my feet most of the day, and by the time I get home, deal with family things like dinner, laundry, school stuff, I've been too tired to do much but crawl into bed. Forget getting online to delete the hundreds of junk mails I've been getting, or doing any research. A little over 2 1/2 weeks ago, the young man doing the Bald Knobber documentary for his master's thesis at OSU (Oklahoma City) called to say he needed to film some scenes by the first week in December. So Ingrid (who's working 50+ hours/week), Rick (who's working even more), and I went location scouting, cast calling, costume gathering, and dealing with other stuff that is the next logical step from our play. We filmed 4 different scenes on Sunday; Damon brought his crew, the cast did wonderfully well, and for our first time doing this, the weekend went extremely well. Attrition was not too high, as far as cast fallout and location glitches--we managed to recover and keep going. We are extremely excited about this project, for this documentary will be submitted to the Sundance Film Festival in January 2004 (note the date), and hopefully, we'll move on to the movie afterwards. I don't have any idea on video release dates, or televised dates--but it'll happen some day. We have about 4-6 more months of shooting scenes on location in Taney Co. (if possible, other locations if necessary), and then Damon begins editing. I cannot emphasize our volunteers enough. They've done so wonderfully well, and no matter what we ask, they come through for us. We are lucky. As for you all, I've not forgotten you. It seems some folks are jumping in and answering questions, and that's very good. I have had to put my own genealogy and family research on hold for a while, and so I appreciate y'all "carrying on". Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Vonda ListMom for MO-AR-WRV http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/
Hello Angela Miller, There are 21 or so Index listings for Humphrey in the History of Lincoln Co.Ok. published by the Lincoln County Historical Society. No Chester however in the index. Gay Fuller
Did I miss something earlier about Prague?? Perhaps it was the wrong surname connection.. My Humphrey line lived in Forsyth, Missouri before moving to Prague, Oklahoma in the early 1900s (at least by the time my Grandfather Chester was born in 1908).
