    2. Welcome Mike, I am researching The Stone family's that was listed on the 1840 census. It's quite a drive from Texas. Glad to have you aboard.

    2. Vonda Sheets
    3. Well, now! Congrats to Mike St. Clair for becoming the Taney Co. website coordinator! I'm sure you'll do wonderful! On a similar note--I discovered I don't like messing with websites, LOL, after nearly 3 years of doing so--Brian Shay is taking over the White River Valley Historical Society website. He's a natural for it, since he usually goes on the cemetery hops, and has a love for documentation. Thank you very much, Brian! I made the mistake, when I started out, of thinking the website coordinator and the list coordinator were the same person--and that ain't necessarily so. Many, like Jo Dunne of the Stone Co. site, do coordinate both, and do a great job. (She makes it hard to follow in her footsteps!) I like the idea of there being different people for both, too. There's not a lot to do with "list business", but as y'all witnessed a couple weeks ago, I was a little slow getting someone off that apparently didn't know how to read. People don't just get put on lists by accident--my guess is that she simply didn't know what she was doing when she clicked on to join, and maybe still hasn't made the connection. Been there, done that...although I'm pretty sure my mama did a better job raising me! Now...the Bald Knobber Reenactment this year will be 14 June at 3 PM in Shadow Rock Park. "Outlaw Roundup" isn't a fitting title anymore (the purposes behind that name no longer exist), and "Law Day" doesn't really suit anymore, either. Does anyone have a suggestion for a title to the event? "Bald Knobber Day", "Taney Co. History Day", whatever? Something catchy, but not unwieldy. We use "White River Valley Gathering" for the fall pow-wow event, because we eventually would like to have a Celtic clan gathering in conjunction (we're getting there). Ideas? Brian needs a title for the update on the WRVHS homepage. No, you don't have to design the logo as well! (although ideas on that would be alright, too!) Before that, we will be holding a rummage sale during Forsyth's city-wide yard sale on 17 May. The proceeds from the sale will go to improving the sound for the play. We used body mikes on nearly everybody 2 years ago, and that was really expensive. Last year, we only used 3 body mikes, and a lot of area mikes, which was not satisfactory in sound quality. Since I'm nearly deaf, it's an issue that's of considerable importance to me. The play is held outside, as you know, and short of seeing if the Forsyth PD will close off Hwy 160 to any loud vehicle (not really an option!), we've decided to attempt the body mikes again, with lots of speakers throughout the audience area. If you have items you'd like to donate to the rummage sale, <BG> and live nearby, let me know! That's about all I know right now. The dogwoods are losing their blossoms, and the clover in my back yard is nearly knee-high (Greg hasn't gotten my mower ready yet this year!) I have most of my seeds and seedlings planted, amazingly enough. It's going to be a great spring! Have a GREAT week! V

    1. [MOTANEY] New Taney County Coordinator - USGenWeb
    2. Mike St. Clair
    3. I am pleased to introduce myself as the new county coordinator of the Taney County website at MOGenWeb. My name is Mike St. Clair and I descend from several families with Taney County roots: St. Clair, Cook, and Evans. My father, Noah M. St. Clair (which is also my full, formal name) was born at Day in northwestern Taney County, and I visited the area with him several times while he was alive. Like many of the rest of you, over the generations my ancestors and their descendants have intermarried with many other Taney county families so I'm probably related by marriage with many of you. I've been researching my roots for more than 30 years and during that time have had the pleasure several times to visit Taney County for on-site research, along with some very enjoyable siteseeing. I'm excited about joining the USGenWeb family and serving all of you in trying to improve access to resources that can help in your research. There is a lot of such material already at the Taney County website (http://http://www.rootsweb.com/~motaney/taney.htm). I have some ideas for changes that I hope to implement over time to make this site of even more value, but wanted to begin by soliciting your input. Please send your ideas directly to me at TaneyMike@saintclair.org unless you feel they are the sort suggestions that are of research value to others on this mailing list, or that they warrant group discussion. What would you like to see added and/or changed? Do you have any concrete suggestions you would like to see considered as I begin my service as a county coordinator? What do you like most or least about the existing website? Are you aware of data elsewhere on the web that is of value to Taney county researchers but not currently linked from the USGenWeb site for the county? Do you have in your possession data that you would like to contribute, whether it is currently in machine readable format or whether data entry would be required first? Do you know someone who might have such genealogical data? I don't yet have the magic codes that grant me access to make changes but expect to receive them shortly. In the meantime, I look forward to hearing your input, including answers to the previous questions. I will greatly appreciate any ideas and suggestions and promise that I will ponder them as I consider what sorts of changes might be useful to Taney researchers. One of the wonderful things about genealogists in general and Taney researchers specifically is their willingness to help and to share. This is also the underlying spirit of USGenWeb and I consider it a privilege to be participating in this fashion. As time goes by, feel free to contact me at any time concerning the Taney website. Your suggestions, concerns, even complaints, are always welcome. Mike St. Clair Taney County Coordinator (a greenhorn!) USGenWeb/MOGenWeb TaneyMike@saintclair.org

    1. [MOTANEY] George Bristow & Malinda Manes Family
    2. Gina Thomas Patterson
    3. I'm hoping some of you on the list may be able to help me track this family down: George Bristow b. ca 1840, Arkansas married ca 1861-1862 to Malinda Manes b. ca 1844 Bradley Co., Tennessee? to parents Clabourn L. & Sarah Sampley Manes. 1) George & Malinda had: 2) Nancy H. Bristow b. 1862, Arkansas 3) George S. Bristow b. 1864, Missouri 4) Seaborn Ray Bristow b. 01 Jan 1866, Missouri, d. 07 November 1940, San Francisco, CA 5) Mary J. Bristow b. 1868, Arkansas 6) Joseph B. Bristow b. May 1870, Arkansas, d. 06 Jan 1960 Jackson Co., Oregon At the time of the 1870 U.S. Census this family was residing in Washington Twp., Boone Co., Arkansas. But with the history of the Manes family, this family could have gone back to Searcy Co., I haven't found them on the 1880 census yet ~ sure would like to. The Manes family also put in appearances in Taney Co.. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. ~gina~ visit my website http://www.burningskyenterprises.com, click on Family Album

Her Dad was William Daniel Pickett b. l5 Feb l860 who was David Hadlley's oldest son . Cora was his oldest daughter and her sister was Ethel Rebecca b. 22 Nov 1885 and she married Edwin B. Michel. 3. Clarification: (It would help if I would just double-check my database before I go opening my yap!) The Mary F. Edwards who married William D. Pickett, s/o David Hadley & Elizabeth C. Spoon Pickett, was one of William E. Edwards' daughters; he was the s/o James and Mary Lake Edwards. James was a son of Caleb and Annis Edwards. 3. Betty, The Edwards family located between Kirbyville and Mildred, and were in the 1860 Taney Co. census. There is another Edwards family, descendants of Caleb who settled in Taney by 1850 (Linn Twp), who were apparently from SC>TN. I don't know if the two families are connected--they lived close enough to have been. V

    3. Hey, Mrs. Isaac Alva Howard's name was Cora E. Pickett b 26 May 1882 Taney Co. MO. She and Alva (b 13 Jun 1883 d 8 Oct 1956, s/o Richard K. and Rachel A. Jennings Howard) are both buried in Edwards Cemetery, near Powersite. I don't know her relation to David Hadley Pickett, but that area north and east of Kirbyville, all along to Mildred, had lots of Picketts--there's a ridge called Pickett Ridge. I would think Cora was David's daughter, but I have his youngest daughter as Rosetta A. b 20 Aug 1882. His wife was Elizabeth Catherine Spoon. Their oldest son was William Daniel b 1860, who married an Edwards, but not until 1889. There are Pickett researchers/descendants on the Taney list. Anyone care to step in? V

    3. Would anyone in the Edwards family share some family history with me? Sarah (Sally) Edwards of Clay Co MO married (3rd) Joseph N/M Kinyon of Clinton Co MO. Their son Charles H. Kenyon and some others in Kinyon/Kenyon family moved to Taney Co around 1891. Did some of that Edwards family also move to Taney?? Or did the Edwards families in the area come from somewhere else? Any help appreciated. Thank you, Betty Pulley beejay@neok.com
