I like the clean, easy to read style Mike. You might add a link to the Bureau of Land management patent search page under Records > Land Records. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page explains that the final documents found linked at the BLM site are not the end of the trail. Additionally, your ancestors Land Entry papers can be obtained from the National Archives. Land Entry files were created when a person claimed land under an act of Congress. They first had to fill out an application, and sometimes provide other information(marriage or immigration documents), at the local General Land Office. Other documents were also created under that application, like receipts for any payments, or affidavits of occupation, immigration, marriage, and homestead application. Eastern States did not keep these files. They are now the responsibility of the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. Terry Walker

Your feedback and suggestions are both most appreciated. Per Brian's response, he and I have started discussions that we intend will lead to cooperation between the WRVHS and the Taney County GenWeb site to prevent wasteful duplication and to make it as easy as possible for researchers to get to what they need. WRVHS has done an outstanding job on the cemetery front over the years. Your suggestion for photos is a good one. I'm sure we will end up with an archive of photos of people, houses, places, etc. of interest and value to genealogists and local historians. And whichever site any specific material is located at (or wherever else it might be found on the Internet) it's our intention to make it as easy to find and to use as we possibly can. > -----Original Message----- > From: Sharon Fulton [mailto:texsam@cox.net] > Sent: Monday, April 28, 2003 6:10 PM > To: MOTANEY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: [MOTANEY] new Taney web page > > > Hi - I like it - are you going to incorporate all the Taney > Cemeteries into > it? > What about a place for pictures of tombstones? Sharon, A good number of the cemeteries are listed on the White River Valley Historical Society homepage at href>http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/ or directly to the cemetery page at href> http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/taney/cem_index.htm The Society has established a Cemetery Committee to oversee the recording of Taney County Cemeteries and when needed assist in the designation and possible cleanup. We try to get out at least once a month to do a "Cemetery Hop", in other words record or update cemetery listings. I have started talking to Mike about how to get the Taney Co page up to speed, while keeping the duplication at a minimum with the two sites. I love the new layout. I like the menu at the top with the drop down list very nice. The backgroud color is a nice color. This is a project that is well overdue. Yes, this looks like it is the same family, but I'm not sure the wife is Malinda Manes at this point as the very last child ~ Tennessee Bristow ~ is listed as a stepdaughter, and as the child is under 1 year old, I am wondering if Malinda died by then. She & George had a 4-yr old son on this census, so it seems she may have died between 1876 and 1880. Thank you so much for the tip & clue, and this family being in Washington fits right in with the rest of the information I've found on the family. ~gina~ --- AGGRAN2U@aol.com wrote: > Could this possibly be your George? > It's easy to seach the 1880 census by going to > Familysearch.org > <A > HREF="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/individual_record.asp?INDI_CODE=1880US_4491570_0&frompage=5"> > Geo. As a newly appointed County Coordinator I've been putting some thought into possible revisions in appearance. I have posted a "rough sketch" of a general pattern that I'm thinking about following for a future revised Taney site. It is at: http://www.saintclair.org/taney/ NOTE: This is not the REAL Taney County Missouri website for USGenWeb and the LINKS DO NOT WORK. I posted it just to get some feedback on the general approach from interested parties. I'd appreciate your looking at the appearance/structure of the menu and giving me feedback. Please tell me: Do you like it? Do you hate it? Have some important categories have been forgotten? Any comments you'd care to make are valid, welcome and needed. P.S. I think I'm going to eliminate the transparency when I figure out how! :-) I'm not sure when I will get the actual codes to allow me to make changes. Be assured That I will NOT disrupt your use of the existing site until I have any upgrades ready and tested. I'm just doing a little preliminary work in preparation and would appreciate your feedback Mike St. Clair - Taney County Coordinator, MOGenWeb/USGenWeb TaneyMike@saintclair.org
Just wanted to say welcome Mike. Appreciate you taking the Coordinator position. I am researching families in Taney, Stone and Barry counties for the most part. Researching: Hilton, Thomas, Parvin, Maddox, and other family names in this area. Toni Roush Springfield, MO.

Mike, Thanks for volunteering to coordinate the Taney Co. website. Most of my maternal ancestors resided in Taney Co. at some point in time. I've corresponded with you before regarding my Petty line that married into the St. Clair line. Marlene (Selvidge, McDade, Petty, Essary, Estep, Grady, Walker and others) --

Hi Mike, I am Betty Mullanack and am working on the Mulanax family from Protem in Taney Co. They married several different lines but the ones I can think of right off hand are the Clemons and Garland, Clarkson, Motley, Welch, Shadwick, Johnson, and Taber. So if anyone is working on any of these lines they can feel free to e-mail me.
