John M. Brown (1882-????) married my grand aunt Elizabeth Eudora Evans (1883-1963)in Phillips county, Kansas in 1906 after both families relocated from the Taney area to Kansas. John came from a large family (11 kids that I know of) I haven't followed his sibling's families much but his parents are Samuel James Brown (1857-1943) and Lucinda Handy (1858-1945). His grandparents were William Marion Brown (1830-1866) and Floy Lucinda Swadley (1833-1880), both of whom died in adjacent Douglas county. My husband's ancestor from Taney County, Missouri is John BURCHFIELD and his wife Rebecca HAMILTON. John and Rebecca moved to Taney County in abt 1833 and both are buried either in Taney or Stone County. They had a number of children who remained in Taney/Stone including: Nancy BURCHFIELD who married Nathaniel KIMBERLING James H. BURCHFIELD who married Harriett SULLIVAN Frances BURCHFIELD who married John COX William Perry BURCHFIELD who married Mary Ann BLEDSOE (my husband's line) Phoebe BURCHFIELD who married Alexander BERRY Malinda BURCHFIELD who married James Pleasant BYRD, Jr. Margaret BURCHFIELD who married Charles S. IRBY Rachel BURCHFIELD who married Jonathan RALEY Mary BURCHFIELD who married Samuel SHUMATE Mollee
My direct ancestor emigrants who entered the Taney area are: St. Clair The emigrants were James William St. Clair/Sarah Slater coming from Kentucky, Tennessee, or West Virginia in the 1840s (I haven't found which and they reported all of these in the census) Cook The emigrants were William McKinley Cook/Margaret Lucinda Jackson coming from Grainger (now Union county Tennessee in the 1840s. Evans The emigrants were William E. Evans/Martha Jane Witten and their family coming directly from Miller county, Missouri and he before that from Morgan county, Illinois. His predecessors came from Grainger county, Tennessee and Taliaferro county, Georgia before that. Hers came from Wayne county, Kentucky and Tazewell county, Virginia before that. Since arriving these folks have intermarried with most of the other families and spread to most counties in southwestern Missouri, including these surnames among others: Adams, Beard, Berry, Bilyeu, Blansit, Bookout, Boyd, Brown, Browner or Brauner, Brumley, Bryant, Clevenger, Coats, Compton, Craig, Cummings, Farrar, Florence, Gideon, Handy, Hannah, Keithley, Lair, Meadows, Melton, Palmer, Petty, Smith, Tittsworth, Vinyard, Wade, Weatherman, White, Wood Consequently I'm interested in all the early residents of the county and I've found the current and former residents I've met (in person or electronically) to be very fine and interesting folks. Mike St. Clair Currently of American Fork, Utah mike@saintclair.org
Cook, Berry, Melton, Meadows

Hi Mike; I'm still the mailing list coordinator. You're doing a good job and I see no problem with you ever posting about lists, changes, additions, whatever to the site. The Taney Co. site always pertains to genealogy; so ................. keep up the good work. I have been quiet here, because I have been pleased to see the good conversation about the site. Take care, All! Jerry Johnston Scottsdale, AZ
It may have been assumed that as the new County Coordinator for Taney that I am also the list coordinator. But there was nothing in the transfer process that seemed to provide me the "keys" to do this - for example, the redirection of the admin mailing address. I also seem to remember that someone was appointed the list coordinator in the last year or so but I can't find anything to document that. I wouldn't be adverse to taking on the mailing list also if that turns out to be vacant, but if there is a current coordinator I'd like to make contact and set up a cooperative relationship. Do any of you know who the coordinator is at present?
