Thanks for the clarification, Jerry. You and Mike are both doing a great job. Glad to see the Taney list so active. You're doing a good job and I see no problem with you ever posting about lists, changes, additions, whatever to the site. The Taney Co. site always pertains to genealogy; so ................. keep up the good work. I have been quiet here, because I have been pleased to see the good conversation about the site. I see a couple of folks researching Rice folks. I have a photo, from Gate, Beaver Co., Oklahoma. It is of my great-grandparents Martha Mitchell Reece and Paley Baker Reece, of Garrison and Dickens, respectfully. In the photo, besides other family members, are an older man and woman. labeled Grandma and Grandpa Rice. We have no idea who the latter couple are. This photo was taken i 1906. Any idea of who they might have been? Could they have been from the Taney Co. area, visiting in Oklahoma? There were other folks in the Beaver Co., OK area; Roberts, Green, and more, that were from Taney Co. Jerry Johnston
Remember folks, there were two Caswell Roberts. The other one was married to Rachel Burkhart & they were my 4grandparents. I do not think the two are closely related; or related at all. Jerry, I am not related to these MITCHELLs. A distant relative sent me the Bible of Rev. M.R. Mitchell. He bought it at a garage sale. This family names and dates are written in this Bible. If you want it I will gladly send it to you. I live in southern Oregon. I think the garage sale was 2 years ago in Taney, Stone or Christian County. I don't remember. It is not in very good shape but the info is easy to read. I believe this was Morris Mitchell's personal Bible because of the information inside the front cover. Let me know if you are interested. I do connect to the Jacob Smith/Matilda Mitchell family in Christian County and that is why this Bible was sent to me to see if there was a connection. Since we have a new list coordinator, and probably some new members, anyone up for Roll Call? Terry
Ah, beautiful Taney County. My ancestors settled there in early 1800s, having first been listed in Callaway Co, records, later in Greene Co, and finally in Taney Co. Taney was broken off from Greene, so this change in location doesn't indicate a move. I descend from James Oliver and Rachel Holman/Holeman. James had the first mill in Taney Co. Rachel was a daughter of Henry Holman of KY and James was the son of John and Martha Oliver of KY. James and Rachel had the following children, many of whom had children who married into some of the Taney Co., names I've already seen posted. 1.Archibald Oliver brn 31 Aug 1811 Boone Co., KY, Marr. Elizabeth Garner. Archibald died 1849 in Taney Co., MO. 2. John Oliver brn 28 Apr 1813 Boone Co., KY, marr. Frances Archer, John died 24 Feb 1881 bur. Lewallen Cem, Branson. 3. Abigail (Abbie) Oliver brn. 1815 Boone Co., KY,marr. William Archer 1833 Co., MO, [I would like to find the family of William ARCHER, after he moved to Jasper Co., MO.] 4. William D. Oliver brn 6 Oct 1816 Boone Co., KY, marr. 1) Annie Haggard, 2) Margaret Beals. William died 3 Jun 1908 Evergreen, McLennan Co., TX where he is buried in the Evergreen Cem. on his farm, and for which he donated land. 5. Cynthia Oliver brn 1818 in Boone Co., KY, marr. Sandifer Spearman. Bur. Old Valley View Cem. Cooke Co., TX. 6. Lucinda Jane Oliver brn about 1820 in IN, marr. James Madison Archer in MO, died aft 1889 in probably in Montague Co., TX. James Oliver, JR. brn 25 Dec 1824 in IN, marr probably twice, last wife was Elizabeth M. ___, James died 27 Aug. 1883, bur in Cox, Cem. Lorena, McLennan Co., TX. 9. I'm looking for a Rose Porter Cochrane obituary. She died about 1954 on her 96th birthday, month of April. I say about, because I have her birth year as about 1858. She married Wm Cochrane in Ohio and lived in Jasper County, MO for most of her life. She was still living there with her husband according to the 1930 census. I don't know why she was living in Hollister, possible her daughter May had moved there? May was married to a man named O.B. Wallace. I don't know if he died or they divorced, as May Wallace was living with her parents in 1930. She doesn't seem to be buried in Jasper County, at least I have no record of that so far. Is there an index, obit, directory, cemetery, that someone could check for a Rose Cochrane and a May Wallace in Taney county, city of Hollister? thank you, Maureen

Shirley; Your Mitchells probably tie to the ones I have been trying to connect to. This is patriarch Morris Mitchell's family of Polk Co., MO. Mike St. Clair, aren't you connected to these folks too? It seems to me you are? The Marion Mitchell you mention may be mine; some of Thomas J. Mitchell and Catherine Roberts Mitchell. What other info do you have on him? If he is mine, he moved with some of the Garrison clan up to Sand Point, Idaho.
