Hi Vonda, Again, I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful help you provided me by guiding me to the Snapp Cemetery and helping me find Ronnie Higgin's place of burial. You were superb in every way. I appreciate you taking me by the church where Ronnie married Willene Glenn. I sent a thank you card to the church secretary. Now for the bad news and I am not happy about it is that I sent a letter to the Taney County Courthouse at Forsyth to get a copy of Ronnie's marriage record. I included a SASE with my request but I did not know the date of marriage. Now this is why we all contact the courthouse when we are looking for something that we don't know such as a date of marriage. The courthouse responded that they could not help me because I did not give them the complete date of marriage and they made up the excuse that they are a small office. I will have to contact Jefferson City and try and get it from them if I can. All I know is that Ronnie was married at the church at Rockaway Beach which is in Taney County. Willene also has failed to answer my letter too. She told me on the telephone that she would send me information. I sent her a letter with a SASE shortly after I mailed the letter to the courthouse. I am beginning to believe that Willene lied to me all the way. The plan to meet Willene at Forsyth fell through. She never showed up. She did call the restaurant and made up the excuse that traffic was stalled on Rt. 65 for 45 minutes and so she turned around and went back home because she does not like to drive after dark. So, I did not get anything at all from her while I was down there. I really don't believe she wanted to see me at all. So now I am back to where I started from. I run across these kind of people in my family tree research often and it makes me very unhappy that I can't accomplish my goal. I will be signing off Taney County web site within the next few weeks because I will be installing a new computer system. Thank you again for all of your wonderful help. Best Wishes, John W. Pegg
Not that I want to get excited here, Linda. Not at all! Do you have proof of the marriage between Joseph Cary b. 1840 and Elizabeth Hampton? I have an Elizabeth Hampton, d/o Joel Hampton and Elizabeth Page, b. 1842 in Carroll County. Same one? I would love to help you on Garrett's children, but I have what you have unfortunately. TIA! Terri, I can't remember if I've talked with you before about your Walker family. I'm researching an Elizabeth Walker, born 1818 in TN (probably Monroe Co.). She married William Selvidge, Jr. in TN and they came to Webster Co., MO about 1842. After the Civil War they moved to Taney County with their children, most of whom were grown. I have never been able to find out anything about Elizabeth's family in TN., but I have often wondered if they came with some of the Walker family to Missouri. I haven't been able to connect them to the Leonard Walker family in Taney Co., but it is still a possibility. One of the Selvidge descendants, Melissa "Belle" McDade, married a John Walker in either Christian or Taney Co. in the early 1900s. This family moved to Washington State. If you see any possible connections, please let me know. This is also one of my brick walls. Marlene
Hi Mike, I do not still live in the area, but I will send you some info on your General Thurman. Yes, that was his name, not a rank. He had a son named Colonel with his first wife, Elizabeth. My link to the Thurman family is through Charles "Toney" Thurman b. 1882 MO, who married Alma Walker in 1900 Taney Co. Alma was a dtr of Lafayette Cook Walker and Mary DeWitt. I have not yet determined Charles' parents, but feel sure they link up somewhere with General's extended family. LC Walker's father was William Walker b. 1817 TN, who settled in Swan Twp, Taney Co. about 1845 with his wife, Sarah Wyatt. The Walker family is my BBW (Big Brick Wall) thanks to those burned Taney Co. courthouses, the last in 1885. Aside from BLM and a few scattered newspapers on microfilm, there are virtually no records from before 1885 to help me find where in TN they originated. As William and Sarah were married in TN about 1834 and your family was in AR at that time, there is probably no connection to our Walker families. Good luck in your quest. Nancy et al, I'm sure that Ideana would have been able to get around, but if you're not "known", it's kinda hard to get to a few places...they don't tote shotguns in the rear wind-er ennymore--at least not on da paved roads--but I knew that she'd be able to find her way back out of the Holler okay. Most folks in that neck o' da woods figger iffen you kin fin' yer way down thar, you kin fin' yer way back... Goodnight Holler is beautiful, no matter the time of year... Vonda

That said...are you sure they lived around Branson? Swan Twp is the Forsyth area, going south some, but not to Branson. Branson wasn't started until 1882 or so, and was in Newton Twp. There is a Bed & Breakfast on F Hwy, north of Branson and overlooking Emory Creek Valley as you descend into Bull Creek Valley--kinda hard to describe, but the road curves around a "mountain" there--called "The Thurman House". Always wondered why. I thought this area had to be Jasper Twp, but there's no telling. There's some other Thurmans in there. If you'll e me privately, we can take it offlist--unless someone else is interested. Vonda ListMom for MOTaney and MO-AR-WRV at Rootsweb http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/
That is so nice that Vonda was your tour guide. I am sure if I ever got to Taney County, I would probably get lost after the first mile. Nancy

Fellow researchers; Now that I am caught up and can breathe a little bit easier I would like to tell you about my trip to Missouri and the people that helped and guided me thru out their counties and cities. I am sure there are good and helpful people everywhere but when it comes to Genealogy I have never met such willingness to share and to help others out. I started on the 7th of October, 2000 by getting on a plane that was flying to KC, MO (my mother who is 84 was with me). We stayed the night in KC, at the Station Casinos and then on Sunday the 8th of October we went to Marceline, MO, stayed in Marceline for a week. On the 14th of October we left Marceline and went to Butler, MO and on the 17th we left Butler and went to Nevada, MO for a one night stay. On the 18th we headed for Baxter Springs, KS and stayed again for one night, leaving Baxter on the morning of the 19th we headed for Branson, MO. We were able to stay in Branson for two nights. On the morning of the 21st we left Branson and headed for Osceola, MO and spent the day in St. Clair County. On the evening of the 21st we were back in Butler, MO, and on the 23rd of October we went to Clinton, MO for a one day visit and were back in Butler that evening. On the 24th of October we had to pack up for the last time and head for the airport in KC, MO. Upon arriving back home I had the normal work staring me in the face, DIRTY house, laundry and a husband that missed me. The normal unpacking, jet lag, arranging for my Mom to get back to her home in Kingman, AZ, plus had company coming for the following weekend. Needless to say I was TIRED! I have all of my findings (genealogy) stacked up and am about to get busy on putting it all into my hard drive, now that things are back to normal. There are some people that I want to thank for their help and advice. Taney Co., MO CINDY STONE and her Mom ANNA STONE for taking us to the Cupp/Nash Cemetery. On the way to the Cemetery we went by way of Bear Creek Road, what an experience! Thank you cousin for leading me in the right direction, would have not found it by myself. After visiting the Cemetery we went back to Anna's house for coffee and talking Genealogy. VONDA WILSON SHEETS, what a lady! To take her valuable time away from her husband and family. We met at a nice little Mom and Pop type restaurant called UNA'S for lunch. Vonda had her Aunt (Ethel) and her Cousin (Georgina) with her and they were such nice ladies. Upon starting our journey, then she gave me a Walkie Talkie and she had the other one. I followed her by car to the town of Forsyth, MO to Round Mountain Road, to Bull Creek Bridge, to Meadows Cemetery and then To Goodnight Holler Road and back. All the way, she was talking on the radio and telling me about what was to the right and to the left and felt just like I was on a tour. THANK YOU VONDA! I got to meet INGRID ALBERS, as Vonda picked her up on our way out of town. I had such a good and productive trip and want to thank all of you for all of your help. Can anyone tell me if any Thurman descendants still live in Taney County? My gr-gr-grandmother, Martha Franklin Walker (1843 - 1890) married General W. Thurman (1837 - 1903) after my gr-gr-grandfather, Thomas H. Walker b. 1835 in Izard County, Arkansas, was killed in the Civil War. She had two children by Thomas Walker, Mary Jane Walker Gray (1860 - 1878) and my gr-grandfather, William Thomas Walker (1862 - 1945). Martha (who was said to have had "quite a bit of Indian blood") and General Thurman were found on the 1870 Census of Izard County with Jane and William and their infant daughter, Hannah Thurman. They moved to Taney County sometime after 1870 where General Thurman owned 380 acres around Branson. General and Martha had five more children: Lenora Thurman b. 1872; Sterling Thurman b. 1876; Theodore Thurman b. 1878; James Martin Thurman (1881 - 1941); and Lucy Thurman Hill b. 1883, wife of Green Hill. Sterling Thurman operated a grape farm around Forsyth. After Martha Franklin Walker Thurman's death in 1890, General Thurman remarried and had more children. If anyone has any information on any of this family, I would greatly appreciate it. Mike Walker
I want to say thank you to for us researchers who can't go to the library or have the money to but reports, this sure helps us all. Brenda
