Mike, Nathaniel b 1868 s/o Wm. Franklin and Ailcey, really couldn't have married Fanny Brawner before marrying Almedia ca 1885--he wasn't old enough. I think I'm going to merge the 2 Nathaniels I have, making them the little bro of Wm. Franklin St. Clair. Then I'm going to add--again--Wm & Ailcey's son Nathaniel, b 1868. I sometimes find that the info from LDS isn't entirely accurate; and it's the fault of the submitter to the church, not the church's fault. After all, Greg doesn't exist according to the LDS, for whoever submitted his LEE 3xg grandmother forgot to put his 2xg grandfather--her son--in, too. And while she wasn't the one who did it, that's with Greg's stepmother and family being members of the church! <BG> However, I assure you, he does exist. The database is safe, for the time being, despite its quirks. How aggravating. I had all those kids listed under the son, too, not the bro. rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh Vonda
Mike and others interested, I rec'd this from Marlene- Vonda, Asbury "Buck" Petty's parents were William and Elizabeth Coffey Petty. William Petty was born 1812 in TN and died about 1864 in Maries Co., MO. He was killed on his front porch by Confederate soldiers. After his death Elizabeth moved her family to Taney Co. Elizabeth, born 1822 in Wayne Co., KY, was the daughter of Marvel and Rachel Boone Coffey who came to Maries Co. in the 1830s from KY>TN. Rachel Boone was the granddaughter of Israel Boone, Daniel's brother. William and Elizabeth's children were: 1. William Henderson, who married Almiranda David. William served in the Civil War and was a deputy sheriff in Taney Co. for a short time. About 1900 William moved his family to Oklahoma. Mother Elizabeth went with them. Their children were: McClellan, John William, Marcus, Lillie Janet, Jefferson, Gabriel Newton and Mary. 2. Isaac, who married Tabitha Frances Estep. Isaac died about 1888 in Taney Co. There is a family story that he was shot by the Baldknobbers, but I've never been able to confirm that. After his death, Frances married Joseph Mosley. Isaac and Frances' children were John Rueben, Sarah Jane, Jacob Henderson and James. Jacob was my grandfather. 3. Samuel, who married Almeda Cummings in Taney Co. Family tradition says that Samuel was killed in a barroom brawl before his only child, Sammie (female), was born. Almeda later married Nathaniel St. Clair. 4. Elizabeth, who married Clements Falter in Taney Co. The only child I have listed for them is Mary. I have very little information on this family and would like to hear from anyone connected to the family. 5. Jesse Boone, who married Catherine Roller in Taney Co. Their children were Richard, Ludema, Mary and Sarah. There were probably more children, but I have not been able to locate this family after the 1880 Census. I would like to hear from anyone with knowledge of this family. 6. Asbury Buchanan, who married Melissa St. Clair in Taney Co. Their children I have listed were Minnie, Estell, Laura and Gladys. There probably were more children. I would like to have all the children's names and who they married. 7. Mary Ellen, who married Jacob Mooney Cummings in Taney Co. Their children were Amanda, Margaret R., Vincent, Henrietta, Mary, Almeda, and Sarah. I would like to know who these children married. 8. There may have been a son, John, born about the time his father was killed, but I haven't found any information on him. Marlene >Marlene and Don, >Who were the parents of Asbury Petty and his sibs? Vonda, I really enjoyed getting to meet you and your husband and all of your family yesterday in Branson. I like your neck of the woods. Although I live in a big city now, I was raised down further in the Ozarks in Izard County, Arkansas, and I think it is all God's country down there. You all were very kind to this ol' stranger. Vonda - I want that database!! The two Nathaniels are of my ancestry (William and Ailcey are my great grand parents) Their son Nathaniel married twice that I know of - first to a Fanny Browner (or Brawner) and secondly to Macy Allen. William's brother Nathaniel married an Almedia (I wasn't aware of the maiden name) who had married first a Petty or Pelty according to my records. This must have been Almeda Cummings Petty. So please don't destroy the database. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vonda Sheets" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 26, 2000 4:57 PM Subject: Help on St. Clair > Okay, > I have 2 Nathaniel St. Clairs. For those that might be interested I have a completer copy of the divorce papers of Joseph and Maude Evans Britton. Married 1901, divorced 1902. They are interesting and also has a copy of the newspaper notices too. Victoria Brittain Allen

I promised Barbara I'd do it, and I'm a little slow, but getting there... The Logan Cemetery, currently surrounded by a subdivision called Country Bluff Estates, has been bounded by permanent markers. A fence is probably not necessary at this point, for boy-hidy, if these markers ain't permanent, I don't know what is... You can see a picture at http://www.geocities.com/soakbear/cemetery.htm Mary Lou Logan Davis, her husband Lawrence, and cousin Donnie Rantz built the markers over the past few months, coming down from Billings in Christian Co. to do so. (The Cem is, I think, just outside Branson city limits, although all surrounding it are a part of Branson) These markers have a footing of concrete, 1 foot deep, and are built of concrete and bricks. They are absolutely gorgeous, and classy to boot. I've not had the chance to go out and see them for myself, and I don't know what the folks next door think; but they look good from the pictures. The problem with Logan is that it is apparently county property, landlocked without a legal easement (there's a utility easement, of all things), and was not being maintained. As our older generation "graduates" (I like that term) to its reward, younger ones are not always picking up the slack. I know of some who are--Jeff Michel being one of them--but in general, some of these older cems aren't even known to younger generations. The developer of the subdivision, while apparently knowing of the cemetery, "assumed" there were no graves other than what was marked (hah!), and wasn't quite clear to folks on its exact boundaries. When the county surveyed the cem last May, the boundary line passed 18 inches from the deck/hot tub of the house next to it. Those folks, understandably, were not happy to lose what they believed to be their back yard. Since we believe there are graves down the hillside, in that "back yard", there wasn't a good compromise on parcel trade. The neighbors are agreeable to folks visiting the cem, however, and are decent people all in all. But I would imagine any arguments to be held in the future over the boundaries will be between the homeowners and the developer and real estate agent who are responsible. The cemetery is now safe, plainly marked, and on the GPS mapping system. It remains to us to figure out who is buried in there besides Logans, at least taking educated guesses. You would do it by the process of elimination, basically; if you know someone lived in the Fall Creek area, can't find them in another cemetery, and are pretty sure they died in Taney County, they could be buried in Logan. All sorts of congratulations to Barbara Logan, Mary Lou Davis (who is not online) and her family, and other Logan descendants. By going in and doing, they saved a fantastic piece of their history! Hello again! Duh, me...I got interrupted by the daughter <BG> who is doing homework, and forgot to add... Please, those of you on other lists across the US, if you think it would help find the rightful place of the CRUNKLETON tombstone, pass the information along to your lists. Vonda
Howdy! Now that the Thanksgiving holiday weekend is coming to a close--I hope everyone got some more info out of their relatives! <BG> First of all, because I hope this information goes out to someone with PML who is researching the CRUNKLETON surname-- My uncle, who lives in Belton, MO, was out walking his part of the family land on Friday, and discovered a tombstone set up--probably for Halloween--on his fenceline, near a gravel turnaround. He and his son laid the tombstone down, and I heard about it last night. Greg and I went to "rescue" it today, for the surname is not a Taney County name, and even with all the newcomers into the area, there isn't a single CRUNKLETON listed in the phone book. Here's the info-- Loretta Crunkleton Born and Died Feb 5 1934 I seriously doubt this came from a Taney County cemetery; I don't recall ever seeing the surname in the whole White River Valley, to be honest. If ANYONE knows of a CRUNKLETON family, and maybe a missing stone from a cem, please contact me. We brought the stone home, and want to see it returned to its home. It is not a big stone, but it is still heavy. It looks to be made of cement. Here's the link to the pictures, viewable at "The Cemetery Corner" on the White River Valley site http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/cemetery_corner/crunkletonstone.html I did a search at Rootsweb for the surname, and it seems to be mostly in the southeast portion of the US, NC, GA, and AL. (one cem in MT popped up) It is possible it was a family who "passed through" Taney County during the Depression, but it still doesn't belong where it was found. The closest cemetery is a mile away, the Berry Cemetery on Hwy 65, and I'm fairly sure it doesn't go there. I have submitted it to "Missing Links," the Rootsweb newsletter; if I don't get any leads on it in the next couple of weeks, I'll see if I can get a reporter from the Springfield paper to do a short article on it. Greg and I met Mike Walker, a THURMAN descendant, for coffee and a ride today. Poor fella, he lives in the Kansas City area, and I didn't want to ask what he thought of our neck of the woods just yet. He got to meet much of my clan, except for all our kids; our daughter, my parents, my grandmother, two aunts and two uncles...that's kinda a rough thing to do to a feller who thought he was just getting a cup of coffee. He might have been sorta shell-shocked when he left, but he was game to take "the back way" to Springfield and catch Hwy 13 North, so he's probably okay! He is also researching LANDERS in Christian County. Those of you on the Taney list probably remember some of his recent posts. Nice guy! I really enjoy meeting y'all when you come to the Branson area...I inevitably get to take a drive/ride around the countryside, yak some, and have a good time all around. (Yes, I've been told I'm easy to keep content...) "Law Day 2001: Outlaw Roundup" is moving right along. May 19, 2001, at Shadow Rock Park in Forsyth, MO. Ingrid and I have found a director for the Bald Knobber Re-enactment; his name is Rick SWAN, and he's fantastic! Has ideas for most of the whole event, knows about everyone Greg and I don't, and is a ball of fire all the way around! <BG> Now, there are going to be various committees signed up at the next quarterly meeting, which is 10 Dec at the Friendship House (aka Rose O'Neill Tea Room) at College of the Ozarks. If you live in the area, please take part in this event by joining a committee and helping out. You don't have to be a member of the White River Valley Historical Society to do so, but it would help us keep in touch with you. If you don't live in the area, but still want to get involved...there are ways. You can donate money to the jail restoration, or to a certain part of "Outlaw Roundup". You can spread the word to folks in the counties covered by the Society you are in contact with. You could even make plans to attend "Outlaw Roundup" and get to meet lots of the folks on these lists...<BG> There will be a website specifically for the Society soon. I'll let you know. Hope everyone has a Great Holiday Season! Vonda ListMom for MOTaney and MO-AR-WRV http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/
Hi Folks - thought I'd drop a line and let you know I have quite a bit of genealogy on the Stiffler family if anyone needs help. My g-g-grand-parents were George Washington and Georgia Ann (Tye) Stiffler, children of John Bardell and Martha Ann (Brumbelow) Stiffler, and Job and Nancy (McCarty) Tye. My g-grandmother, Sarah Lucinda "Sada" Stiffler married William Clayborn Carsten, son of Frederick William & Neoma (Manus) Carsten. We know for sure George Washington and "Georgeann" Stiffler are buried in the Casey Cemetery outsife Forsyth, I had the fortune to visit there briefly in the summer of 1996. You have a very beautiful county, it was a pleasure to visit and I can certainly see why my ancestors stopped off "for a spell" instead of migrating on into Oklahoma during the time of forced removal of the Cherokee Indians. ~gina thomas patterson~ http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH
Well, now, Only one person's hollered at me for being quiet this week--and she didn't really holler, just wondered if I was still alive. Yep, and kicking every minute I'm awake. I didn't make my goal of getting my genealogy online by yesterday, but it ain't for lack in trying. Every time I think I'm going to say, "Enough!" I figure that if I just add a couple more people, I'll get some fresh leads (like I have time to do research right now...hah!) that will just knock them ole brick walls right down. It's cold these days in Taney County. The leaves are mostly gone off the trees, and while I saw a magnolia tree(I think that's what it was) down along Turkey Creek today with green leaves still, it's in the lee of Presbyterian Hill, down out of the wind. But we're getting more winter-like weather now than we had in 2 months last year. No doubt I'll be ready for spring when the time is right, but I hope we have a real winter this year. I'd like to see the lakes go back to where they're supposed to be. Ingrid and I have been working--not quite like dogs, but still busy--on "Law Day 2001: Outlaw Roundup" which is set for 19 May. I sure hope those of you within spittin' distance (maybe even further) can make it, for it's bound to be a humdinger. Hee, hee, and I'm enjoying the heck out of it so far. We've gotten the basic plans for the Bald Knobber Re-enactment worked out, mapped out, and now we're talking to folks who want to help out...either by being in it, or being on the support team. I'm going to have to stock up on AAA batteries, for we're going to be using those 2-way radios to communicate that day. It also looks like the Jail will have a new sidewalk in time for Outlaw Roundup. Details are still being worked out, and I'll let you know. We are planning on all sorts of music, storytelling, historical and genealogical book vendors, kids' activities, and more. We won't do the costume contest this year, but will invite any and all to dress up in clothing like our ancestors wore. If you have some they actually did wear, and can wear it, like Wanda Pickett Ehlers is planning, then that'll be great. I won't holler if you show up wearing blue jeans, however...LOL they are my favorite uniform. If any of you have ancestors who were involved in feuds, were outlaws, or who were victimized by criminals or Bald Knobbers, please post the stories to the list. I know a lot about the Taney County folks, but not enough about other counties. And if you are involved with historical or genealogical societies in the White River Valley, please be sure to let them know what we're doing, and that they're invited, too. Invitations to these societies will likely go out in January sometime, and I need to know who to contact or addresses if you have them. It's late--as usual--and I'm going to have to git. Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of y'all out there, and want to welcome the newcomers to the list! Please continue posting stories about who you are looking for, where and when, and keep the fun going! PS Don't forget to join the White River Valley Historical Society if you haven't already done so! You can do so from the WRV homepage, link below... Sorry for your lose. She sounded like a wonderful person. You have done a great job of honoring her and I am sure she would be very proud. Just remember all the good times and that she is always will be there with you. The only time people actually die is when you stop remembering them. You and your family are in my prayers.
