    3. Gina and others, I forget sometimes to let y'all know when I put stuff up...quite a while back, I spent hours putting some maps together, cleaning them up, etc, of Taney Co. If you go to the WRV site, click on Taney, then go to "Maps of Taney," there are several there. The problem is, they are kinda big...so they take a while to download. CARTEN 1896-1973 is listed on page 49 and the only other similar surname in the Index for that Cemetery is Vernon CARSTEN 26 Oct 1923--4 May 1969 listed on page 59. Those are the only 2 CARSTEN or CARTEN or similar names listed in the Index pages to Vol. 1.     3. Hi, While looking through a Newton Co. MO newspaper on microfilm, I stumbled across the following. Not my family, but hope it is of interest to Smith and McDonald researchers. "Albert Smith, aged seventeen, Pearl McDonald, aged eleven eloped from Taney County, but were arrested in Springfield. They were on their way to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) and had thirty dollars to begin life with. The marriage is indefinately postponed." Newton County Missouri News, 14 August 1890, pg 2
