He was at least 104 and living with his daughter, Betsey (Elizabeth C.) and her 2nd husband, John Scobee. John Scobee had been married originally to Betsey's sister, Paulina Meadows Haynes but she had died in August of 1866. Betsey had been to James Riggins, but he had died in 1853. On Oct. 12, 1866, they married. John Scobee owned a livery stable, and on the night William John Haynes died, was working there when Betsey finished fixing supper. She told her father to fetch John, and he did. When he got back, he was too tired to eat, he said, and went to bed. Later on they found him there, dead. These Haynes had a lot of beautiful red hair in the family. Hannah, a sister, especially had a headfull. Many don't know this, but for a time, Betsey Haynes was blind. She smoked a pipe and wore a red bandanna around her head. A traveling medicine show came through town, gave her an elixir and somehow cured her blindness. I'm descended from John (his 1st initial was I., but we don't know what his name was) and Paulina Meadows Haynes' son, James Stinson Scobee. My email address is jomorgan@swbell.net
