I am posting what I have, can anyone add to this? Descendants of John Vaughn Generation No. 1 1. JOHN2 VAUGHN (ALEXANDER1) was born 28 April 1812 in Washington County, Ohio. He married LUCRETIA MARTIN 17 November 1836 in Lagrange, Lagrange County,Indiana, daughter of DAN MARTIN and ELIZABETH SEARLE. She was born 11 May 1815 in Steuben County, New York. Notes for JOHN VAUGHN: LUCRETIA MARTIN AND JOHN VAUGHN LUCRETIA was the 11th child of DAN MARTIN & ELIZABETH SEARLE. She was born 11 May 1815 in Steuben County, New York. When LUCRETIA was 15, her father died.Sometime in 1836, DAN jr, Lucretia's brother left Ohio with his wife ELIZA VAUGHN, her brothers, his cousin STEPHEN,[note: Stephen's identity has not been proven, but I believe that he is the son of Uriah Martin and Rhoda Stiles] and his sister, LUCRETIA and moved to Lagrange County, Indiana. Their mother, ELIZABETH was found on the 1840 census living with newly married JARED, the youngest brother. * note: WFT36 Fam843 has Lucretia 1st marrying Dan Harris in Williams County, OH on 16 Dec, 1832. The group may have arrived in Lagrange County, Indiana as early as 5 April 1836 when JAMES VAUGHN, brother to JOHN, purchased 80 acres of land in Twp 37N. Six months later, on 17 November, 1836, LUCRETIA married her brother-in-law, JOHN VAUGHN. JOHN was born 28 April 1812 in Washington County, Ohio. [note: John's birth info comes from a Vaughn family Bible in possesion of a relative of Thelma Ford Gregg Herndon.] On 20 March 1837, JOHN VAUGHN and DAN MARTIN purchased 52.8 acres of land together, also in Twp 37N. August of that same year JOHN purchased 40 acres in Twp 36N and DAN purchased 120 acres in Twp 36N. The last two men are probably boarders or laborers. All the men are listed was Farmers by occupation in both families. *note [ Stephen, son of Uriah Martin and Rhoda Stiles,both deceased, would have been 39,not 34. There was either an error in transcribing, or possibly the men were out in the fields and the women gave the information incorrectly. **[note: using the Lee County Census as a guide, the families were in Iowa by 1841. ELIZABETH VAUGHN B. 1842 is not on the 1860 census[ 18YRS] ELIZABETH MARTIN B.1841 [need 1860 census] There is an Elizabeth Martin in the early Sullivan co. Marriage records with ROLLA BRANTNER m 17 Feb 1861. Not sure if this is the correct Elizabeth.
