Thanks, JoAnn for the info! This is all my 90 yr old grandmother could remember about my grandfather: My grandfather and his sister survived the cyclone, the rest of the family died. The 2 children were raised by neighbors - Brantley. She thinks Fred was born 1895 or so, cant remember the sister's name. I have been looking for Fred McKinley Hayes for years! He left my grandmother, uncle and father before my father's birth -- never to be seen again. Now my father, grandmother, and uncle are deceased. I'm sure Fred is also. Last night I find on the Mormon site a Fred Hays, parents William Hays and Flora A Mathews, all died 1899 in Newtown, Sullivan, Missouri. Parents are listed as buried in the Newtown Cemetery, not Fred though. That's because he didn't die then! If this is MY Fred - his mother's parents are listed as Enoch Mathews and Susan Pickenpaugh. Anyone searching these lines? Do you know if the book "Our Little Town Newtown Missouri 1858-1983" is still available to purchase? If so, where? Thanks so much!
