Posted on: Sullivan County, MO Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Sullivan/570 Surname: Mullins, Smith, Clements, Rogers, Watson ------------------------- Glad you asked, see David's page at my link below or contact me if the link doesn't work (first time I've tried a link). I have a lot of information on the Mullins line and would like to know how you connect to David. My great aunt Ida Rogers TUNNEL was born in 1878 and lived in Reger all her life. She remembered David's murder and her story passed to me from my dad's sister. Her story has it that David was associate constable and tried to arrest brothers Coon and Fletcher FRANKLIN for general rowdiness. When David climbed in a barn loft looking for them, Fletcher shot him in the face. David crawled the mile to Reger and was taken to Milan where he died a week later. Subsequent research indicates the brothers were in David's custody when they escaped and the rest of the story is as before. Coon was captured in Palymra but Fletcher escaped. 15 years later Fletcher was arrested and spent two years in the state pen for horse theft in Linn County. When he was released from prison, he was taken into custody by the Livingston County sheriff. Nothing more is known. Most likely he was never tried for murder. I found an item in 1916 where he sold his farm near Milan and moved away. Apparently he was quite wealthy at the time. I guess crime does pay. Link: David W.
