Diane, What Grindstaff-Creason connection do you have? I have a William T. Grindstaff that married Eliza Creason in 1868, Later he married her niece, Kitty Creason. I'm not sure if this William is "My" William or not as that William shows a birthdate of 1853, while "My" William was born in Boone County, MO in 1847. I don't know if there is just an error in dates or if there were two William T.'s. I do have some info on William and the Creason girls and the children. Sue

Could some one on the list tell us what part of the county Bowman Twp is in????????? Robin
Bowman Twp is in the southwesterly portion of Sullivan County. The Sullivan County page has an 1877 map of Sullivan County which shows the townships quite well. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mosulliv/map-1877.html Elizabeth Richardson, Ketchikan, Alaska erich@ktn.net > > Could some one on the list tell us what part of the county > Bowman Twp is in????????? > > Robin > >

HI List: We have two obituaries from around 1920 we need to locate. Both people are believed to have died in Bowman, Sullivan Co. What we need to know is what newspaper covered that area in 1920. And the name and phone number or email address of a library in that area that would have copies of the newspaper on micro film. Is there any one on this list that can help us, or point us in the right direction?? It would be greatly appreciated. Robin

If so, where? I don't know if there are any left. The book is 18 yrs old, of course. I got mine about 10 yrs ago. Perhaps if you contact the Newtown Chamber of Commerrce they can find out for you. Otherwise, as I advised another person, there are on-line booksellers of out-of-print books. Alibris is one that I have used and found books I thought I'd never find. Incidently, for all persons searching the Newtown area -- it was actually in Putnam Co. maybe sat on the county line, from the look of an 1877 map. So, if you don't find records in Sullivan, try Putnam. JoAnn JoAnn L. Gemmrig KA7SUZ@concentric.net ka7suz@eudoramail.com ka7suz@juno.com ICQ 400112
Thanks, JoAnn for the info! This is all my 90 yr old grandmother could remember about my grandfather: My grandfather and his sister survived the cyclone, the rest of the family died. The 2 children were raised by neighbors - Brantley. She thinks Fred was born 1895 or so, cant remember the sister's name. I have been looking for Fred McKinley Hayes for years! He left my grandmother, uncle and father before my father's birth -- never to be seen again. Now my father, grandmother, and uncle are deceased. I'm sure Fred is also. Last night I find on the Mormon site a Fred Hays, parents William Hays and Flora A Mathews, all died 1899 in Newtown, Sullivan, Missouri. Parents are listed as buried in the Newtown Cemetery, not Fred though. That's because he didn't die then! If this is MY Fred - his mother's parents are listed as Enoch Mathews and Susan Pickenpaugh. Anyone searching these lines? Do you know if the book "Our Little Town Newtown Missouri 1858-1983" is still available to purchase? If so, where? Thanks so much! I don't know about April 22, 1899; but, on April 27, 1899 .... "the worst disaster ever - visited the little city." It is called a cyclone according to extractions quoted from The Newtown Chronicle (newspaper) at that time. My source is a book called: "Our Own Little Town Newtown Missouri 1858-1983". It was published in 1983 by The Milan Standard (newspaper) and was compiled by the Newtown Quasquicentennial Association. It is a fantastic book with lots of history of the area near Newtown. I don't know what area of Sullivan Co. you are asking about but, whatever happened in Newtown probably impacted all of the county as well as neighboring counties. The book is not indexed, so I can not offer look-ups; but, regarding this disaster, there is an extensive list of losses of life and property. I would be willing to copy that to the list if it is wanted. JoAnn
