I have been contacted by a gentleman who is writing a book on the Fredenburgs and their migration to Oregon. He is interested in talking to any Altisers in the Sullivan County area since most were descended from Peter and Matilda Fredenburg Altiser. I know you are out there since Bob was the postmaster in Pollock for so many years and my mom knew some when she went to Milan High (Go Wildcats!). So, if you would write to me, I will put you in touch with him. He is really interested in old letters, photos, etc. that might provide clues on whether Matilda ever got to see her family again after they moved to Oregon. He is also interested in what life was like around Pollock/Valapariso/Boynton in the late 1800s. (Does anyone have the address of the person selling the History of Sullivan County books? I saw it in the Milan Standard, but cannot remember when or where!) Thanks! Marsha

Searching LDS archives I have found the Mary Ann Taylor (GGGrandpa's mother) to be the daughter of a John Taylor. I haven't verified the rape ordeal. It is a difficult line to trace. Hopefully I can get some solid information regarding GGGrandpa and his parents, etc. before long. If you have any further information I would love to have it. Thank you for your posting.

I have him listed as A.B. Trask. (This is what I was told he was referred to later on by people in the family. ) He died in Humphreys, Missouri on 09/14/1921. My mother remembers that he came from Iowa. In fact my great aunt Polly and great uncle Charlie moved there for a while because of family after they were married. A. B. was married while he lived in Humphreys to Matilda Barnes. She died 1936 in Humphreys. If you feel like we are talking about the same person, I would appreciate anything more that you can tell me about him. Once again, my great uncle Charles Trask (b 09/24/1887 d. 11/22/1962) was one child of A.B. & Matilda. I already gave you a list of his brothers and sisters. I don't have any dates for any of them. (If you find them, please let me know.) He married my great aunt Polly Clark. (b. 07/15/1888 d. 04/14/1973) Polly was the daughter of Samuel Clark (b. 09/17/1851 d. 12/04/1917) & Matilda Hatcher (b. 01/2-/1851 d. 12/30/1933) Samuel & Matilda had the following children in addition to Polly: Vivian Selena Robert Alva Bertha William A. Eliza John Ollie Minnie Chrles Isaac If you are interested in any of the birth/death dates for these children of Polly and Charles, please let me know at CaryClark@aol.com Thanks, Cary

If this ties into your family lines I'd sure appreciate any information that you have. I've share the extent of what I have. I can, of course, give you info on Polly Clark and her family.
Trying to verify William Franklin McDowell's birth date. We originally had Jan. 2, 1869, but I have found a Frank McDowell born Feb. 6, 1878, which would have made him the same age as his wife, Mary Belle Yardley. I had heard that William Franklin "Wid" McDowell died in Missouri and can find NOTHING with the original birthdate. The second one, however, I have found that he was born and died in Missouri. Any help would be appreciated! Marsha Researching: SEARS, PICKERING, MCDOWELL, RODGERS, MCCUNE, PITTMAN, YARDLEY, DEEDS, PICKENPAUGH AND many others.

Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/jNB.2ACI/732 Message Board Post: Pauline Humphreys was the daughter of Thomas Marshall Humphreys and Hanna Eliza Pickens (m.5/20/1880). Pauline had a brother, John, and a sister, Edith. Pauline founded the Missouri chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of women educators (their web site is www.deltakappagamma.org. She was also on the faculty at Central Missouri State University, and I believe she never married. At one time there was a small college in the town of Humphreys, known as the Humphreys Academy. I believe the handwritten note in your book relates to that college. Thomas Marshall Humphreys was the son of Elisha Emory Humphreys and Mary Ann Dobbins. Elisha and Mary Ann had a total 13 children, Thoma Marshall (b. 1854, d.1931)Elizabeth Jane (Russell), Emma Alice (Winters), John Andrew, Sarah Margaret (Moberly), Charles Cook, Minnie (Brown), Frank, James G., Verne Naomi, Helen (Henicker), Herman Clide, and William F. I am the great-granddaughter of John Andrew, and grew up in the town of Humphreys. My parents, John Birck and Edna Vivian (Tomblin) Humphreys, still live there. This is probably more information than you needed, but I have some additional family history if you are interested.
Juanita: You are wonderful. Thank you for all the information. Are the birth and death dates from actual tombstones? If not, where did you find them? You did not find Almarinda in the 1860 census. I am wondering if she wasn't married first to someone else. Her marriage to William C. Ayers was at age 34. Quite an "old maid" during the times. Is there anywhere to check marriage records for 1845 to 1855 or so? Corinne -----Original Message----- From: Melvin Hall <Hall1@nemr.net> To: Corinne <res0jhq4@verizon.net> Date: Monday, January 28, 2002 8:51 AM Subject: Ayers Here is something that might interest you if you don't have it. William J Smart "married Mrs Almaranda T Ayers, who had six children by her first marriage, two of whom live with Mr. Smart. This lady is a member of the Christian Church" from "The History of Adair,Sullivan,Putnam & Schuyler Counties Missouri" 1888 by Goodspeed, page 899 Almarria T Ayers wife of William C born 22 Apr 180 died 5 Nov 1893 and buried at the Ayers Cemetery, Missouri William C Ayers born 2 Dec 1813 died 2 Aug 1884 buried at the Ayers Cem, Sullivan County Missouri Missouri became a state in 1820, Sullivan County was formed in 1845. The Ayers family was living in Buchanan Township in Sullivan County Missouri. Welcome J Ayers, son of William C & Almarinda married Carrie Shaver. The Shaver family was in either Randolph or Ralls county before they came to North Missouri. Perhaps they met there. In the 1860 Adair County Missouri Census is a listing for a W C Ayers age 46 born Ohio Household #905 with the A H Linder family. This could be your William C. This appears to be Morrow Township which is adjacent to Buchanan Township in Sullivan County Hope some of this helps. Jaunita
Hi all, I am currently working on a book about my uncles. I am searching for anyone who may have served with Glenn "Sooner," Bill or Harry Sears during World War II. Also looking for anyone who was friends with them before, during or after their time of service. If you could pass this on or post it at the local VFW's or American Legions, I would be greatly appreciative. Do not go out of your way to do it, just if you think about it. Also, and this is a long shot, I am looking for anyone who may have information about Oscar Pickering and his time of service during World War I. Please have them email me for more information as I am hesitant to place my address or phone number here. Thanks a lot for your help! Marsha Sears
Thank you to both Lema and Juanita for sending the 1880 census listing for William and Almarinda. If SKS could find these two in the 1860 Census I would be extremely happy. William C. AYERS enlisted in 1862 in a MO Cavalry unit in the Civil War. He was PROBABLY living in MO in 1860. Almarinda T. HAYNES was b. 1830 in MO so should be somewhere. William and Almarinda were married 18 Sep 1864 in Sullivan Co., MO. I found 5 HAYNES/HAINES/HANES in the 1860 census but Almarinda/Rinda was not listed in any of those. On a historical note, can someone tell how many settlers were in MO before 1830? I find it unusual that Almarinda was born in MO in that year. Wouldn't that mean her parents were some of the first settlers in the state? Corinne

I am turning to the list for help with this one. I just discovered hubby's gg-grandparent's yesterday. Subsequent check of records I have access to has yielded nothing further than the following. William C. AYERS m. Rinda HAYNES 18 Sep 1864. (found on the MOGenWeb site, Early Sullivan Co. marriages) 1870 Sullivan Co., MO Federal Enumeration Census Pg. 167, 71/65 Ayers, William C., 57, M, W, Farner, b. Ohio . . . Almarind, 40, F, W, Keeping House, b. Missouri . . . Clara, 5, F, W, b. Missouri . . . Welcome, 4, M, W, b. Missouri . . . John C., 3, M, W, b. Missouri . . . Ida (E.?), 10/12, F, W, b. Missouri William C. Ayers served during the Civil War. His widow, Almarinda T. Ayers, applied for Widow's Pension on 27 Feb 1886. I have not been able to find William and Almarinda in the 1880 Sulivan Co. census. However, Ancestry's soundex search is not always the best. Also, have not been able to find Almarinda/Rinda in the 1860 census in any Haynes household, nor can I find William in that year. Given Almarinda/Rinda's age, she may have been married before 1864. Does anyone have any additional information on this family or can you recommend another place to look? TIA, Corinne
