Posted on: Sullivan County, MO Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/SullivanObits/10130 Surname: GILLISPIE, SMITH, MAUL, CAMPBELL ------------------------- From the Trenton Republican-Time 12 Oct 1932 Mrs. Mary Ellen Gillaspie, wife of the late W. H. Gillaspie, of Humphreys, died at 8:45 p.m. yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. O. Smith of Linneus, the result of chronic nephritis. She was 72 years old. Since the death of Mr. Gillaspie last December, Mrs. Gillaspie had been making her home in Humphreys, but a few weeks ago went to visit her daughter, where she took ill, although she had been in failing health for some time. The survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Tom Maul, Laredo; Mrs. Flora Campbell, state of California; Mrs. C. O. Smith, Linneus; four sons, Cleasie, Ora, Alfred and Elzie Gillaspie, all living in the state of California; also several half-brothers and one half-sister. The body was brought to the home of the deceased today by an ambulance from Galt. Funeral arrangements were not completed at noon today, although the services will perhaps be held at Humphreys tomorrow.

    3. Posted on: Sullivan County, MO Obituaries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mo/SullivanObits/10124 Surname: ------------------------- From the Trenton Republican-Times 17 Dec 1931 William H. Gillaspie, 71, of Humphreys, died suddenly at 5:30 p.m. yesterday at his home there, it was learned here today. Mr. Gillaspie, who was engaged in the blacksmith business in Humphreys, was in his usual health yesterday, and after attending a funeral there in the afternoon, assisted in getting some one driving an automobile out of the mud. He had just finished doing the chores about the home and came into the house, complaining to Mrs. Gillaspie that he was not 'feeling just right.' In a few minutes remarked 'I think it is all over,' and fell. He was dead before a physician could be called. The cause of death was apoplexy. Mr. Gillaspie formerly lived on a farm in the community of Haseville, but moved to Humphreys ten or twelve years ago and bought a blacksmith shop, which he operated himself. He was a member of the Methodist church at Humphreys and also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge. Besides the widow the survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Emma Keith [Smith], Linneus; Mrs. Thomas Maul, Laredo; Mrs. Flora Campbell, state of California; four sons, Plezie Gillaspie, Alfred Gillaspie, Aura Gillaspie, and Elzie Gillaspie, all of state of California; two brothers, Sherman Gillaspie, Laredo, George Gillaspie, address not learned [Valeda, KS]; one sister, Mrs. Ida Rentfrow, Rockville, Neb. Funeral arrangements have not been completed awaiting word from relatives from a distance. Posted on: Sullivan County, MO Queries Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mo/Sullivan/10708 Surname: SMITH, MULLINS, CLEMENTS, NORVELL, GILLISPIE, ROGERS, WATSON ------------------------- Tracking down a Doctor F. JOHNSON (his given name, not a title). Doctor married Esther M. MULLINS in Sullivan County in 1863. I believe they had a son, Prentiss Franklin JOHNSON b. 9 Feb 1864, d. 28 Jan 1916 in Reger. Prentiss is listed in the 1870 Sullivan census in the home of Esther's sister Nancy Mullins CLEMENTS (Mrs. John CLEMENTS). Doctor was in Co A of the 23rd Mo Vol. Inf. in the CW (commanded by General Benj. PRENTISS) along with Esther's brother. Doctor said he was a resident of Scottsville and was born about 1836 in Boon [sic] Co, MO. In 1863 Doctor was discharged from the army and in 1864 bought land just east of Scottsville. About the same time Phillip F. JOHNSON bought land in the next section, maybe a relative? Doctor sold the land 15 Jan 1870 and disappeared. Esther has not been found since the marriage. My aunt lived in Reger for many years and has known a couple of men named Prentiss JOHNSON. I'm hoping to make contact with one of these men to see if they are related. Is there a Doctor in the house? Link: Doctor F. JOHNSON Webpage URL: <http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=smithns&id=I4703>

Last Sunday on our way to Schrock Cemetery (use to be the main cemetery for Scottsville), my dad and I drove by where Scottsville use to be. The last building in Scottsville was removed at least 10 years ago and nothing remains to mark its former location. It is possible that a Scottsville Methodist church still exists around there but I've never heard of it.

FRANCIS (possibly living with his parents in 1880) Clara/Claria AYERS (probably livng with her parents in 1880) Henry and Clara should be together in the 1900 census. I found a marriage record listed on the FHC site last night for Henry and Claria dated 21 Sep 1883 in Sullivan Co., MO but no source is listed. Henry and Clara are in Yellowstone Co., MT by 1910 as their daughter Alma L. FRANCIS marries that year. Thank in advance for any help, Corinne

    3. Greetings all, I would like to invite all of you to view a new website I am working on, it is called "OLD MAPS OF THE UNITED STATES". I have not seen one like this anywhere, so today I began working on it. I am fortunate to have maps I have collected over the years and a few years ago a friend gave me a Rand McNally Atlas dated 1884, in which the pages are in color. They are beginning to fade some, so I have inhanced them to be brighter again. I will be adding more to the site each day, so be sure and check back often. I hope that you like my site, and if you have any maps you can share, please send to me and I will be happy to give you credit on the site along with the map you send. 1. Sharps of northern Missouri
    2. Robert J. Powell
    3. Hi list: I'm searching for SHARP families of northern Missouri. As near as I can tell, they are the descendants of a Robert Martin Sharp (1820-1863) and Louisa Jacobs (1825-1894) who came to Sullivan County, Missouri in the 1840s. Located mainly in Humphries, Sullivan County, Robert and Louisa Sharp's children and grandchildren also settled in Grundy, Linn, Mercer, and Putnam Counties. I am only distantly connected to this family (a cousin of mine married into them), but another cousin of mine is himself a Sharp, and I am putting together what information I can find for him. I'll share what I have with anyone interested... Thanks, Robert Powell rjpowell72@yahoo.co.uk
