Geez! I searched the Stone Co. History Books, Reminiscent History of the Ozarks, the web...Stone Co Webpage (gives me the idea that maybe Benjamin Franklin PINKLEY was a sibling to Cynthia)....Ancestry.com.. ..Family Search.org...All The Web....Google....and I don't have to look any further than my file cabinets right her behind me (in my own backyard). In "Lest We Forget" (HEMBREE & WEEKS) by Thelma E. Kurtz, I find the following on page 4: RACHEL ELLEN HEMBREE was born 20 Jun 1837, Dubois County, Indiana, daughter of JOHN and MAGGIE HEMBREE. As a young child, her parents moved to Stone County, Missouri, where she grew up. On 15th March 1854, then nearly 17 years old, she married to BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PINKLEY, a widower with four children from previous marriages. Benjamin Franklin Pinkley was born 2 November 1819. According to another family researcher, the late CORA PINKLEY CALL of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Benjamin was a descendant from CHARLES COTESWORTH PINCKNEY (1746-1825), and American Statesman from South Carolina, who was responsible for writing 32 of the 84 provisions contained in the Constitution of the United States of America. (See American Heritage Magazine, February, 1958)." (Guess I'm going to have to do that). It goes on about Benjamin's first wife, Margarette KILLION, and their 6 kids. It mentions that Margarette d. in Martin Co, IN. Regarding Benjamin it says, "Benjamin was a God-fearing, dedicated servant who ministered long hours to his fellow-man in many capacities- as a Justice of the Peace, Minister of the Gospel, teacher, doctor, and even as a shoemaker. He was a highly respected and well-liked individual." It goes on about wife #2, Mrs. Emily Lee (CURBO) FORD and their 2 kids. Then it continues with wife #3, Rachel Ellen HEMBREE and their 4 kids. He mentions how he went to the Civil War, enlisting 18 July 1861 at Galena, MO as a Corporal in Co. I, 24th Regiment, Infantry, MO Volunteers (Brian--what does this mean? Did he fill out paperwork listing who is parents were?) Then it goes on to say that Benjamin caught smallpox and d. at Rolla, MO on the 24 Apri 1862. That meant that he left his wife # 3, Rachel, a widow. There was a scandel (adultry it says....but if she is a widow, then she's not really comitting adultry, although she took up with a man without marriage) and it is recorded in this book. It mentions Frankey DRAHN and Nancy A. HEMBREE (daughter of Hezekiah JONES & Cynthia PINKLEY) testified "as to what they know about the deaths of soldier's (Benj. PINKLEY) first and second wives, and the dates of birth of the claimants." Now, is Nancy (JONES) HEMBREE doing this because she is a sister-in-law to Rachel, or because MAYBE she is the niece of Benjamin Pinkley? Nancy would have been almost 9 years old at the time of wife #1's death and 14 at the time of wife #2's death. Was Nancy there in IN at the time of wife #1's death? Or was she repeating heresay? It mentions that Benjamin's pension papers had Walter Pinkley, B.G. Pinkley, and J.A. Pinkley. Benjamin named one of his daughters by his first wife "Syntha." I wonder if he did have a sister Cynthia and this daughter was named after him. Does this give anyone any ideas? Cheri
