    1. [MOSTONE-L] Hezekiah Jones' family & wife #1 PINKLEY? (1850's - on)
    2. Dear List, Finally had success today from the MO Bureau of Vital Statistics. I did what you folks recommended....I said I was his great-granddaughter (a bit of a fib) and I enclosed the original statement saying I paid the $10. That did the trick as they sent me the death certificate. Allen JONES was b. 10 Sep 1837 in IN (according to the death certificate) and d. 3 Feb 1913 in Christian Co, MO. It lists his father as Hesekiah JONES, b. IN and Syntha PINKLY (actually, it looks like Pwkly with a dot above the first part of the w). I realize the names are spelled wrong; this is how they appear on the death certif. Here is Hezekiah's complete family: Hezekiah JONES b. 1812/3/5 (depends on which census you read) probably in NC marries #1 Cynthia PINKLEY? c. 1835 unknown place). They had 3 kids: Allen JONES b. 10 Sep 1837 m. Mary Ellen CARTER (probably in Christian Co, MO) and d. 3 Feb 1913 in Christian Co. Nancy Ann JONES b. 17 Aug 1839 m. William "Bill" HEMBREE 30 Aug 1857 in Stone Co, she d. 8 Oct 1917 in Stone Co. Lewis S. JONES b. c. 1844 m. 22 Sep 1863 Stone Co, MO to Matilda Adaline SULLIVAN. I don't have Lewis' death date. By 1850, Hezekiah has no wife. I'm guessing that she died in childbirth or shortly after having Lewis. I did not list birth locations for Allen, Nancy, or Lewis. In 1850, their father says they were b. in MO, yet, when the children are older, they say IN (as Nancy's and Allen's death certificates indicate and various censuses). Nancy & Allen are listed twice in 1850 (Taney Co). They appear once with their father and are also listed with the PINKNEY family (info courtsey of Jo :) My comments are in CAPS). 1850 Newton Township House number 174 PINKNEY, A. (Allen) age 26, male IN PINKNEY, R.A. (Rachel Merit), age 22, female IN PINKNEY, L.A., age 4, female MO JONES, A. age 13, male, IN (THIS IS ALLEN, Hez's SON). JONES N.A. age 11, female IN (THIS IS NANCY ANN, Hez's DAUGHTER) Allen d-Jun 1856 Stone Co. (I THINK THIS REFERS TO ALLEN PINKNEY). Swan Township House number 116 Jones, H., (Hezekiah) age 38 male NC A., age 13, male MO (THIS IS ALLEN) N., age 11, female MO (THIS IS NANCY ANN) L.S., (Lewis S.) age 6, male MO (IT ALREADY SAYS LEWIS). I'm guessing that the kids really weren't living with Hez. I'm hoping that the Pinkley's were his first wife's relatives. I don't know where Lewis S. was really living in 1850. Why would dad say his children born in MO and others and the kids later say IN? I need to find Hez & Cyn's marriage....I'm not too sure if it would be in MO or IN. Jo made the following note to me. I may have to poke around here: <<There were Taney County Jones who migrated from NC to Morgan County Indiana. It was a popular migration route. So if Hezekiah was born in NC perhaps his family took that route.>> Hezekiah married a 2nd time to Nancy Parril(l)a/Paralee MATHES on 16 Jun 1854 in Stone Co MO. They have 3 more kids: William Riley JONES b. 16 Feb 1855 (tombstone...hey MaryAnn, that means this was an 8-month pregnancy in the 1850's?) m. 1886 Christian Co MO to Sarah Ellen McELHANEY, he d. 25 Feb 1910 in Stone Co, MO Asa G. JONES b. 6 Mar 1858 Stone Co MO, m. 18 Aug 1878 Stone Co MO to Mary Jane YOUNGBLOOD, he d. 7 Jan 1940. Sarah JONES b. c. 1859/60 Stone Co MO. No further info at this time. Hezekiah dies between 15 Jan 1872 (when he was issued a land patent) and 1 Nov 1873 (when his widow Nancy has the land patent put in her name). Can anyone shed more light on this? Or any info about the PINKLEYs and where they came from? I'm going to poke around on the Stone Co. Webpage and answer half of my own questions. Cheri Mello Baffled in CA
