If you illegally sell or distribute copyrighted work, even if you claim you are just reprinting it, you're committing a crime. Civil and/or criminal penalties may be imposed for copyright infingement...meaning, you could be tried, found guilty, pay a fine, serve a prison sentence...then get sued. You may be required to pay actual and statutory damages in addition to court costs and attorney's fees. Statutory damages a court can award range from $750.00 to $30,000.00. Copyright infringement involving the duplication of more than 10 copies having a total retail value of more than $2,500.00 is a felony. Criminal penalties may include a fine of $15,000.00 for each separate act and a jail sentence of five (5) years. There's a higher law, one that goes by 'Thou Shalt Not Steal'.
