There is a new photo in the Stone County Album of James Albert Byrd and Nancy Jane Stansberry. Our thanks to James Furry who sent it to us, and to Janice Johnson Craig who is the owner of the photo. If you look at the photo you will notice that Nancy Jane is holding what looks like a large book. I have seen many old photos in which the lady is sometimes holding a big book. Matter of fact that one of my own old photos shows gg-grandma holding a big book. In her case I was told it was the family Bible. Does anyone out there know why sometimes the ladies thought it important to be holding the Bible in photographs? Or if it isn't a Bible they are holding - what is that big book?
