    1. Rogers, Henry, Eutsler, Condor, Pearce
    2. I'm searching a family of Rogers who moved there between 1860-1870. James Ansel Rogers lived in Stone, Christian and Greene counties until his death likely between 1920-1930. James' children lived in the area marrying into the Pearce, Eutsler, Henry and Condor families. Does anyone know these folks ? Descendants of James Ansel Rogers Generation No. 1 1. JAMES ANSEL1 ROGERS was born Abt. 1830 in Sullivan County, TN, and died Aft. 1920 in Stone County, Missouri. He married ELIZABETH GOOD 25 Feb 1864 in Sullivan County, TN1. She was born Abt. 1831, and died Bet. 1910 - 1920 in Stone County, Missouri. Notes for JAMES ANSEL ROGERS: James Ansel Rogers is the eldest of Prudence Rogers' three sons. He was apparently named for his grandfather. He appears in the 1860 census of Sullivan County along with his brother, Thomas Franklin. James' marriage to Elizabeth Good is recorded in Sullivan County, 1864 but by 1870 they have relocated with their young family to Greene County, Missouri. By 1880, he has moved just over the county line into Christian County, MO. Between 1864 and his relocation to Missouri, James apparently served a brief stint in the Civil War although the public records concerning this are somewhat confusing. In 1890, the US government took a special census of Union Veterans of the War. James A Rogers, Christian County, Missouri is recorded as a veteran. The census taker appears to have written "Company E - 4th North Carolina Calvary". Although his service was recorded as only three months (Aug-Nov 1864), I can find no record of it and in fact I can find no record of any North Carolina Calvary Units sent to the Union at all. So it is either a mistake altogether or my ability to read the census taker's writing is preventing me from the answer! By 1900, James and Elizabeth have relocated to Stone County (adjoining county). This year, the census records the number of children a woman has borne and how many are living. In this case, Elizabeth has apparently had ten children of which five are living. By 1907, when James files the Guion-Miller application (for entry into the "Cherokee Nation"), he only lists four children, presumably Alice and Nancy but not sure which of the others . Elizabeth dies between 1910 and 1920 and in 1920, James is living with his grand-daughter Annie Eutsler (daughter of Alice Rogers Henry). James dies between 1920 and 1930. Stories of "Indian blood" persist in members of James' family to the present. Children of JAMES ROGERS and ELIZABETH GOOD are: 2. i. NANCY MARGARET2 ROGERS, b. Apr 1865, Sullivan County, TN; d. 28 Mar 1942, Marionville, Greene County, MO. ii. THOMAS FRANKLIN ROGERS, b. 1868. iii. SAMUEL ROGERS, b. 1869. iv. WILLIAM HENRY ROGERS, b. 1875. 3. v. ALICE ROGERS, b. Apr 1878, Greene or Christian County, MO. vi. MARTHA E ROGERS, b. Feb 1882; m. JOHN CURTIS; b. Jun 1873. (?? Not 100% sure this is the right one!) Generation No. 2 2. NANCY MARGARET2 ROGERS (JAMES ANSEL1) was born Apr 1865 in Sullivan County, TN, and died 28 Mar 1942 in Marionville, Greene County, MO2. She married GRANVILLE H. (1) IKE FORRESTER; m. (2) ROBERT CONDER, 15 Oct 1905, Christian County, MO4; b. 04 Mar 1880; d. 13 Jan 1919, Christian County, MO5; m. (3) JOHN PORTER GHAN, Abt. 1921. Notes for AMANDA CORELLA PEARCE: Amanda Pearce and Robert C. Condor can be found in Polk Township of Christian County, Missouri in the 1910 Census. The census corroborates their marriage year of 1905 and indicates that Amanda is the mother of two children - both alive. These children (Effie M <3> and Darrell <2>) are named and living with their parents. By 1920, Robert Condor has died and a young widow, Amanda can be found in the Lincoln Township of Christian County, MO. Her sisters are her neighbors. The census record names three children -- Effie, John D (Darrell from 1910) and Goldie (aka Ruby). Around 1921, Amanda married John Porter Ghan presumably in Christian County, Missouri and according to family members, they were the parents of Oscar Alton and Junior P. Ghan. By 1930, Amanda and John Ghan have divorced and both have remarried. Amanda has remarried Ike Forrester and they can be found in the Stone County Census of Missouri along with two of her children from prior marriages - Ruby Conder and Junior Gann. Her other son by John Ghan, Oscar, is living with his father. Amanda remains in Christian County where she died in 1960. She is buried in the Delaware Cemetery next to her first husband (in fact, the gravestone names her as "Manda Conder"). More About AMANDA CORELLA PEARCE: Burial: Delaware Cemetery, Christian County, MO Notes for JOHN PORTER GHAN: John P. Ghan and his first wife, Sarah Ethel Kimmons can be found in census records of 1910 Christian County, Missouri along with their family. Sarah's death date of 1918 is recorded on her gravestone at Delaware Cemetery in Christian County, MO. The date of his third marriage to Edith Baily (1928) suggests his marriage to Amanda C. Pearce lasted less than ten years. Their children appear to be limited to Oscar Alton and Junior P. Ghan. Obituary follows. John Gahn, 79, died Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Hobert Andrews of Crane, Rt.2. Other survivors are two other daughters, Mrs. Rethel Green, Monett, and Mrs. Eddie Ebert, Billings; three sons, Clyde, Charles and Junior; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Livingston and Mrs. Lora Allison of California; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Notes for MARION WESLEY PEARCE: Wesley and Ida can be found in the 1920 census of Christian County, MO residing in the South Galloway Township. They have one child, Howard with them and Wesley's youngest brother Leonard is also living with them. Wesley, Ida and Howard can be found in Cherokee County, Kansas in 1930 along with a boarder named Ernest Jones whom the census calls a "cousin". Wesley dies in Kansas (Labette County) in 1981. iv. REATHAL M. PEARCE, b. 09 Mar 1896, Christian County, MO; d. Feb 1978, Taneyville, Taney County, MO; m. ROBERT M. SELLARS, 15 May 1913, Christian County, MO. Notes for REATHAL M. They and their three youngest children are in the 1920 census of Christian County, living in the Porter Township. Notes for FLORENCE INES L. PEARCE: Charles and Florence Ines Wise apparently lived their whole lives in Christian County, MO. They can be located in the county from the date of the marriage through 1930 census records and both are buried in Wise Hill Cemetery. The children from the census records are appended by those named in the obituary. Below is the obituary for Florence. Billings: Mrs. Florence I. Wise, 72, of Route 2, Billings, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield. PEARCE: Burial: Wise Hill Cemetery, Christian County, MO vi. JAMES LEONARD PEARCE, b. 1901, Christian County, MO. Notes for JAMES LEONARD PEARCE: In the 1920 Census of Christian County, Leonard is living with brother Wesley and his wife Ida. According to family members, Leonard never married and died fairly young. 3. ALICE2 ROGERS (JAMES ANSEL1) was born Apr 1878 in Greene or Christian County, MO. She married CHARLES HENRY 29 Jan 1896 in Stone County, MO10. He was born Aug 1872 in Iowa, and died Bet. 1907 - 1910 in Stone County, MO. Notes for ALICE ROGERS: Alice and her husband Charles Henry can be found living in the Washington Township of Stone County, Missouri in the 1900 census. The census indicates she is the mother of three children of which two are presently alive (Anna and Jessie). Charles and Annie are living next door to her parents, James and Elizabeth Rogers. Charles dies sometime between the birth of his youngest child in 1908 and the 1910 census where his wife is noted as a "widow". In that year, Alice can be found living with her parents in McKinley Township of Stone County, MO. Here, the records indicate she is the mother of six children of which five are alive. Only the two younger ones (Charles and Martha) are with her. From the 1900 census, we know about two more children -- Annie and Jessie. This accounts for four of the six. The 1910 census contains clues as to the fifth. In this year, apparently Alice has allowed two of her children to be "adopted" by other families in the counties. At this stage, the reason is unknown but Jessie can be found living with a family of Fitzsimmons and a young boy named Albert Henry can be found in the same township living with a Pierce family. Given the notations made about his birth place and that of his parents, it is almost certain he is the fifth child. Annie although only 14 is already married in 1910. Alice either dies between 1910 and 1920 or remarries and moves out of the county. Children of ALICE ROGERS and CHARLES HENRY are: i. ANNIE3 HENRY11, b. 1897, Stone County, MO; m. HENRY EUTSLER; b. 1879. Notes for ANNIE HENRY: Annie is the oldest daughter of Alice and Charles Henry. She is born shortly after their marriage. Annie marries very young and can be found in Ruth Township of Stone county in 1910 with her husband Henry Eutsler (the spellng appears to be something like Ochslar). They have been married less than a year. By 1920, Annie is a widow and is living in Stone County with her two children Troy and Estella. Additionally, her grandfather James Rogers is living with them. ii. JESSIE HENRY11, b. May 1899, Stone County, MO. Notes for JESSIE HENRY: Sometime after 1900, Jessie is sent to live with Frank Fitzsimmons and his wife, Maggie in Stone County. (Frank and Maggie's name is spelled both Fitzsimmons and Fitzmaurice in various records). Although only speculative, it may be that when her father died, Alice (her mother) sent the two older children away to live with other people. iii. MARTHA E. HENRY12, b. 1905, Stone County, MO. Notes for MARTHA E. HENRY: Martha is born about 1905 and can be found living with her Mother in the 1910 Census of Stone County, MO. In the 1920 census of Stone County, she is living in the home of Newt and Martha Bruffett and is noted as their "servant". iv. ALBERT HENRY, b. 1906, Stone County, MO. Notes for ALBERT HENRY: Naming Albert as a child of Alice Rogers and Charles Henry is somewhat speculative however like his sister Jessie, he has been "adopted out" to a family in 1910. He can be found here living with Webster and Anatha Pierce in the Ruth Township (the same township as Jessie) and the indication of birth places for him (Missouri), his father (Iowa) and mother (Missouri) matches Charles and Alice. At this stage the proof is reasonable though as yet circumstantial. v. CHARLES W. HENRY12, b. 1908, Stone County, MO. Endnotes 1. Sullivan County , TN Marriage Records. 2.
