    1. [MOSTONE-L] JONESes in Stone Co, Letter #1
    2. Dear List, Since there is some interest on these Joneses, I will post what I mailed to MaryAnn. I wrote 3 letters last night. I fell asleep thinking about this. It was pretty late. Excuse me if I don't make sense sometimes. Cheri Mello P.S. Since Lists can't support color or fonts or boldfacing, I will separate with << >> and paragraph breaks. MaryAnn, I am going to answer your emails backwards (I didn't see one of them when I first answered). I won't post to the list at this time, because I think we are the only 2 interested. If you find others interested, I will copy and post it to the list. <<While I was in Stone County, I heard many stories about Uncle Ace [Asa] Jones coming and staying with my relatives in the 1930's and that he was buried in Blue Eye Cemetery. Another version is that he was buried in one of the cemeteries that was flooded and that his grave was moved. The gentleman in the Blue Eye Cemetery is buried as A. G. Jones [3/6/1858-1/7/1940] and next to him is Mary J. Jones [10/1/1850-2/7/1926].>> This is my family (sort of--he is a half-sibling), as Asa G (I guess he is aka "Ace" m. Mary J. YOUNGBLOOD. My mother has the YOUNGBLOOD book and it says that he is the s/o Hezekiah & Nancy Parilee (Mathes) Jones. The book says she was born 1 Oct. 1849 in Carroll Co, AR. and she died there too, but is buried in Blue Eye. The book says the 1850 date on tombstone is in error. She is the daughter of William M. Youngblood and Jane MAY. There is a picture of Asa G. & Mary Jane YOUNGBLOOD. (she is a cousin of the Youngbloods on my mother's other side.) Did you see a picture of Asa Jones? I can copy this out of the Youngblood book and send it to you, if you like. <<If his father is a Hezekiah, it could be that one of his nephews was another Hezekiah [son of brother Allen]. >> Yes, this Asa's father is Hezekiah. But here's the thing. Asa's half brother, Lewis S. had a son named Hezekiah in Oct. 1869 (from the 1870 Stone Co Census). Nancy Ann Jones who m. William M Hembree had a Hezekiah Hembree, but he died as a small child. I guess everyone was into naming their baby after his grandfather. << The second Hezekiah died before 1913 and had married kids by that time so he would seem to be too young to be Asa [A.G.]'s dad.>> Hezekiah the elder, was born c. 1812/13/15 (depends on which census I look at) and died after 1870. He may be on the 1880 census, but I didn't find him yet. I would hope Hezekiah would have d. by 1913 as he would have been about 100. But Hez. the elder would have had married kids by 1913. I think I am comfused. Are you? <<Some of the relatives he stayed with were the Claude Comptons and the Cloyd [C. H.] Hanafins.>> No clue on who these people are. Here is what I have for what it is worth: Hezekiah JONES & wife #1 (unknown), m. c. 1833-35 (my guess) probably in MO (my guess). 1) male S. JONES b. c. 1835 or 37 in MO (1850 Taney Co Census) 2) female Nancy Ann JONES b. 17 Aug 1839 (family tradition/death certif) in MO (census work) m. 30 Aug 1857 in Stone Co to William (aka Bill) M. HEMBREE (1836-1910) (info from Stone Co webpage and Ozark Hist. book) and she d. 8 Oct 1917 in Stone Co (death certif) 3) male Lewis S. JONES b. c. 1844 in MO (census work) and he m. 22 Sept 1863 in Stone Co (webpage) to Matilda Adaline SULLIVAN. I don't have his death date. The 1850 census lists no wife for Hezekiah. So she died between 1844 - 1850 (probably giving childbirth to Lewis or shortly after). Hezekiah marries again on 16 Jun 1854 in Stone Co to wife #2: Nancy Parilla/Parlee MATHES. They have these kids: 1) male William R. JONES b. c. 1856 Stone Co MO (census work) 2) male Asa G (J?) JONES b. 6 Mar 1858 (tombstone) who m. Mary Jane YOUNGBLOOD 18 Aug 1878 Stone Co MO. He d. 7 Jan 1940 (tombstone). 3) female Sarah (C?) JONES b. c. 1859/60, Stone Co MO (census work) You descend from a William Riley JONES, right? I am doing too many lines at once. The Wm. R. Jones in the 1880 census living with Nancy Ann (Jones) HEMBREE his half-sister is the same one as above. Wasn't your Wm. Riley the postmaster in the Ozark book? Cheri
