    2. Resident of the Month Hilma A. Brumley was born December 27, 1902, 5 miles south of Ozark, MO. Her parents were Wyatt and Lydia (Boadtenhammer) Bilyeu. Her father worked in the lead mines and also was a farmer. Hilma had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She attended Victory School until 8th grade. As a child, she had a horse named "Tony" that she loved very much. She has been a member of the Victory Baptist Church since the age of 6. On her birthday, December 27, 1919, Hilma and George Brumley were married at the McCracken Road home of the Justice of the Peace, named "Old Man Bobbs." George and Hilma had a farm at Christian County, near Bull Creek, where they raised cattle, hogs, and horses. They also had tomato and strawberry fields. The tomatoes were sold to the cannery and the strawberries were taken to market. George was a truck driver and had 2 trucks he used to transport cattle and hogs to market. Hilma and George had 2 children-Jerry Brumley and Betty Teague. There are 10 grandchildren, 20 ggrandchildren and 5 gggrandchildren. Even after George's death in 1981, Hilma continued to live on the farm. She moved to Ozark Nursing and Care in Ozark, MO> on May 6, 1998. Initially, she didn't want to live in a nursing home, but she made friends and enjoys being here. She has a smile and a friendly word for everyone. Hilma participates in all daily activities. When the pen pals come to visit from Ozark Junior High, they gather around her and she tells them stories. Hilma says the reasons she has lived this long is because of hard work, believing in God and going to church. Having a positive outlook, not talking ill of others and helping everyone who needs help are also good reasons for a long life. Hilma has a loving and supportive family who visit her often.
