    3. Geraline, There won't be a death certificate for your ancestor if he died in the 1860's. Stone County did not send death certificates to the State until the 1900's. Censuses for 1860 through 1910 are online on the Stone County web site. You might want to try variations on the name Prewitt.....on censuses I have transcribed I have noticed that Prewitt was spelled several different ways. Pruitt is one I can remember, and Pruwitt. You might also want to check the cemetery lists on the site. Good luck with your research. Let us know if we can be of further assistance.
