Cindy, There are Popes all over Christian county in the late 1800s. I am a Pope descendant (from Bartholomew Co. IN to Marion Co. IA), but haven't been able to connect the White River Valley Popes to my line--I'm sure there's a connection somewhere. My 4xg grandmother was Margaret Pope b ca 1800 NC or TN, d 1840-1847, either IN or IA. Her husband was Christopher Cox; their daughter Mary Margaret was the wife of Abraham Macomb, who lived down where Dogwood Canyon in Stone Co. is now. I've not been able to find out why the Macombs came to SW MO, but I suspect it is because they had Pope relations here.
