    3. Jo and Barb (and anyone else) My grandmother attended school at Boston Center...it is located just east of the intersection of Hwy 248 and Hwy 160, and is technically in Taney County. The town/post office of Irma was close by, and Grandma's parents owned some land east of the school, too. It was where Grandma's mother attended church. The county line is just west of this area, and folks who lived along the Boston Road (248 now follows some of the old road) here included Boyd, Rantz, Cox, Jones, Keithley, and etc. I'm not quite sure how close it is by hillside (or as the crow flies) to Garber, but that was where Grandma attended school sometimes as well. The Boston Road was built in the early 1880s by William Boston, who owned a ferry on the White River upstream from Bull Creek (and the competition). He saw a need for a road other than the Springfield-Harrison road, which went from Spokane down the Bear Creek Valley and on to Bull Creek, then crossed via Hensley's ferry at the mouth of Bull. The S-H road flooded frequently, forcing teamsters and travelers to camp for days (if not weeks) before being able to ford the creeks. It's kind of odd, for I just uploaded some pictures of the site of Boston Ferry and the origins of the road http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gregvonda/greg/gregpeople/bostonfer ry.html The road joined the S-H road on the other side of the White River, going on to Kirbyville. It also joined the S-H road at its northern end, in either Spokane or Reno Springs (not sure exactly where, but inclined to think Spokane). Vonda
