    3. Dear Elba, I am mailing my check this morning for a copy of the "Old Family Recipes" and hope that I am fortunate enough to be in time to receive one of the copies.. I am the great granddaughter of William and Nancy (Jones) Hembree from Stone County. I have just recently become interested in tracing my family history and plan to make a trip to Stone County with my son sometime next Spring. Could you please tell me the best place to start searching for information? I am also the great granddaughter of Franklin and Elizabeth (Lewis) Best who came from Kentucky to Missouri around 1860 and later moved to Oklahoma. My grandparents, Laura Belle Hembree and Simon Hedge Best were married in Stone County before coming to Oklahoma in the early 1900's. When my mother, Alta Lee (Best) Ellis, passed away in 1993 my siblings and I were rummaging through some of her things and we came upon a small oak recipe box. No one wanted it so one of my sisters suggested that I use it to paint on since I do a lot of painting. It was some time later before I happened to remember the box and when I opened it I was in for a big surprise. It was full of recipes which my grandmother, Laura Belle Hembree Best had collected and some were even in her own handwriting. Needless to say, we were all delighted and I am now making copies for all of my siblings. I would love to have attended the meeting Sunday and share some of them but didn't know about it in time to make arrangements. If there is ever another meeting scheduled perhaps some of my family will be able to attend. I want to also thank you and all of the other people who have worked so diligently to provide information about Missouri. I look forward to any and all information received on the internet. Regards, June Carter

    3. What Ellis did your mother marry? I have lots of Ellis in my data as they are our direct line. Do not have any Best, or Hembree but maybe the Ellis could help if we connect. Have you tried Ancestory com.? Let me know today as I go in for Colon cancer surgery Wednesday at 6 am.
