Ellie, Are you talking about the McCullough's between Shell Knob and Springfield? My understanding is there was a McCullough Springs somewhere around the Union Church just the south side of Springfield. I've looked and looked for it. I think Alexander McCullough, maybe. Bessie and Efton's place is just past McGuire Cemetery and before you get to Carr Lane. (Is that old Wire Road?) But a couple of summer's ago, my cousin's and I went to the old McCullough house down by the McCullough Cemetery. The folks were remodeling it some and while they were doing that they found a strange looking fixture. I did take a picture of it and it is very hard to describe but here goes. Angled like a gable at the top of a house, so possibly attached to a gable somewhere. With an arrow and what appears to be rain drops coming down it. Ends up in almost a complete triangle. We have no idea what it is. I did think perhaps it was a "shingle" such as "hung their shingle out". But really have no idea. I did wonder however if it could be a "shingle" for a spring. Any ideas? I am not familiar with the names you mention, but I was wondering if you knew of the Henson and or Carney lines. SJ As yet no Henson and Carney. I have not brought up the men Clem's daughters married yet. Later. Ellie I hope people went to the links that Jo put up on 14 July, 1859 Samuel Marion Davis married Nancy Levinia Manning The Marriage of Sam and Nancy had connected several families in that area. The Wilhelms (Williams) McNabb (McNat) Wells, Hilton, McCully, Maples, Bultman, Melton, Honra, as well as the Manning's, Many of the families had intermarriages, migrated together from TNN, & Alabama to southwesten Missouri. Therefore, for those Mo-Stoners that have no interest in the Bolin surname, I'll make Bolin the subject of all future mail. You can hit delete and move on to something of interest. Now onward with info on my grandfather, Alsom Olin BOLIN, who I will refer to as AO. A brief genealogy overview follows: - AO was born in 1887 in Kansas, the son of George Wesley Bolin and George Ann Moser ( NOTE: several spellings for George Ann and Moser can be found). AO died 1964 and was buried @ New Hope cemetery, Marion, MO. AO's siblings were: - -- Martin Bolin, married a Standlee - -- Mary Bolin, married a Ellis - -- Nellie Bolin, married a Sparks - -- Bessie Bolin, married a McCullough - A.O. and his wife Elsie raised me from the age of 5 until I finished high school at 17 years old. During those 12 years I came to know them as Mom & Dad. I also remember some of A.O. siblings visiting, namely his sisters. I also recall a Della and Lewis visiting. Lewis enjoyed fishing on the Missouri River with A.O. If my memory serves me correctly Della and Lewis had a pretty red haired daughter named LaDean or NaDean or something similar. There was also a "Jigs" Sparks that visited. I don't think he hadn't been married very long. - I took "Jigs" and his wife hunting and nearly wore them out. I was a young boy at the time. Years later I went to Kansas (location slips my mind) to visit "Jigs" and wife for purpose of picking up a crudely framed picture of Alsom Olin Bolin, my grandfather. My understanding at the time was that Jigs" had got the picture from Nellie Bolin Sparks. I was not interested in genealogy at the time and wasn't interested in the photo's history. - Finally, for those that ask about Grace Mills. Grace was a cousin of the Lillian show in the photo. I think the only connection between Grace and AO was a water melon. I would have to see what it looks like. Did you take a picture? The reason I asked that question on McCulla's is from what I understand that is where Clem Davis and others were taken, McCulla's stop off ol Wire road. They were killed there. More on this later. I am trying to find where Sam Davis reburied his father after the civil War. His body laid in a shallow grave from 1861 to late 1865 there.
