Robin, Is there any chance they can save your HD & put in a new machine? I had that problem, ruined most of the computer, but the HD was in tact. Had the same thing happen & one of the files it destroyed was my genealogy program. I back up often, but had just entered mega data. I was heartsick! joy/mo.
Robin, so sorry about your power surge, that just happened to me, 2nd time in 10 years, if there is anything I can do to help let me know. I am about to get my new computer back with at least half the information I had. Thanks for me sharing my findings I have had my family return copies. I have updated the Manning's and Davis's if you need copies of them again. Dear list, It has been several months since I posted anything on the list so thought I had better check in and let you know that I am still alive. One of the main reasons for posting this note is to let you know that OLD SETTLERS OF STONE COUNTY data-base has suffered a major hit from a power surge and several years of research has been lost. I am currently trying to gather my files from old back ups as well as paper files that were sent to me so that the data-base can be reconstructed. I have spent several hours of in-put into the computer and hope to be up and running again soon. However, I am certain that some of my notes are lost forever. During this time, I have also been working on the OLD SETTLERS books, which by some miracle were spared from the damage!!! In the works are 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930. They are all probably about 85% completed...(or as much as I can find). I am hoping to get them published before long, however, I do not have a date set for completion. Probably just whenever I throw my hands up and say " That's it!!! " There are still many families that I would like to link up. OLD SETTLERS 1860, 1870 & 1880 are still available. They are occasionally listed under census records on ebay and of course, on our wonderful MOSTONE!! OLD SETTLERS WEBSITE has not been updated for awhile, due to my database damage. Hopefully I will be able to do something with it soon. Be looking for me on MoStone again and bugging you for family information!! Sincerely, Robin Biddle

All of you who have helped transcribe these records have earned a halo as far as I'm concerned. That was a tremendous job and I can't even imagine trying to read all of those names, spelled so many different ways. You have done an excellent job and it has been extremely helpful to so many. I have found many certificates for my family members -- again in the 1926 records. Thank you!! A few other states have caught on (or Missouri caught onto them). Arizona is one state with the PDF images as well, for both birth and death. I use http://www.deathindexes.com/ and check for whatever state I'm searching in to see if there is anything like the MO Death Index or other volunteer efforts. That is what I do too. I will go to search a county and then put in a year and search that way. I keep track of what years and what counties I search. I find that it works really well. I have found a handful of ancestors that I normally wouldn't have found by typing in their last name because they had been transcribed incorrectly. It may take more time searching that way but at least you probably wont miss anyone because of miss spellings. Shellie

I needed someone in 1926. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember which ancestor. I went to the search page, clicked on "Search All" in the county field, typed T and the the up arrow twice (to get to Stone) and then typed 1926 only for the year. 87 people popped up. I scanned the list and found my ancestor. Just another way to manipulate the database! The Missouri State Archives have added the images for 1926 Death Certificates now. This makes the images on-line for 1910-1926.
Debi, Wonderful!!!! I am in the process of moving, and once I get settled, I will have a new email address. I will be here for about 3 to 5 weeks as yet, and will be checking this email address about twice a week at the library, as I am having my internet service shut down here at the house as of July 31st. I will email you as soon as I get up and running. I am making a move to Bozeman, Montana, by mid September. I am so glad that you made some connections, and thank you in advance for any information that you can send to me, later this year.
