DR. William Nicks Anderson, sub agent for the Mercer Colony west of the Trinity arrived in Texas 1845. He pat 156 acres 1854. He was born in Tenn. 1806 died in Navarro Feb. 5.1855 (shot and killed by William Love) It is said he was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Thankful Nicks Anderson. Information from the book "Old Northwest Texas" My Meeks family were in Nararro, Pala Pinto and Milam County, Texas during this time period. I have not been able to find a connection to this Anderson family with the Stone County Family. Some of the Anderson Children above from Nararro were first cousins to outlaw John Wesley Hardin. William Nicks Anderson may have married twice. His wife in 1850 was Susanna Louise, nee Dixon, daughter of William Dixon. Thank you,Glynda
There is a Mercer Colony book. If you need the info, I'll look for the title and author. It's basically a list of who bought land when. Hello MOSTONERS, Plans are complete for the 2nd annual Bluegrass Festival at Wooley Creek School. A percentage of the profits will go toward the restoration of the old school. It looks like a lot of fun and good fellowship. The link to the details can be found on the Wooley Creek School section: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mostone/wooleycreek/wooleycrk1.html There have been some additional photographs added to the "Work Begins" section as well. Notes for AMANDA CORELLA PEARCE: Amanda Pearce and Robert C. Condor can be found in Polk Township of Christian County, Missouri in the 1910 Census. The census corroborates their marriage year of 1905 and indicates that Amanda is the mother of two children - both alive. These children (Effie M <3> and Darrell <2>) are named and living with their parents. By 1920, Robert Condor has died and a young widow, Amanda can be found in the Lincoln Township of Christian County, MO. Her sisters are her neighbors. The census record names three children -- Effie, John D (Darrell from 1910) and Goldie (aka Ruby). Around 1921, Amanda married John Porter Ghan presumably in Christian County, Missouri and according to family members, they were the parents of Oscar Alton and Junior P. Ghan. By 1930, Amanda and John Ghan have divorced and both have remarried. Amanda has remarried Ike Forrester and they can be found in the Stone County Census of Missouri along with two of her children from prior marriages - Ruby Conder and Junior Gann. Her other son by John Ghan, Oscar, is living with his father. Amanda remains in Christian County where she died in 1960. She is buried in the Delaware Cemetery next to her first husband (in fact, the gravestone names her as "Manda Conder"). More About AMANDA CORELLA PEARCE: Burial: Delaware Cemetery, Christian County, MO Notes for JOHN PORTER GHAN: John P. Ghan and his first wife, Sarah Ethel Kimmons can be found in census records of 1910 Christian County, Missouri along with their family. Sarah's death date of 1918 is recorded on her gravestone at Delaware Cemetery in Christian County, MO. The date of his third marriage to Edith Baily (1928) suggests his marriage to Amanda C. Pearce lasted less than ten years. Their children appear to be limited to Oscar Alton and Junior P. Ghan. Obituary follows. John Gahn, 79, died Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Hobert Andrews of Crane, Rt.2. Other survivors are two other daughters, Mrs. Rethel Green, Monett, and Mrs. Eddie Ebert, Billings; three sons, Clyde, Charles and Junior; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Livingston and Mrs. Lora Allison of California; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Gahn were held Sunday in the Clever Baptist Church. Burial was in Delaware Cemetery. Notes for MARION WESLEY PEARCE: Wesley and Ida can be found in the 1920 census of Christian County, MO residing in the South Galloway Township. They have one child, Howard with them and Wesley's youngest brother Leonard is also living with them. Wesley, Ida and Howard can be found in Cherokee County, Kansas in 1930 along with a boarder named Ernest Jones whom the census calls a "cousin". Wesley dies in Kansas (Labette County) in 1981. iv. PEARCE: Reathal and Robert were married in 1913, Christian County and by 1920 have already started their family. They and their three youngest children are in the 1920 census of Christian County, living in the Porter Township. By 1930, they have relocated to Marionville in Lawrence County, Ohio and according to family records they move yet again to Taney County where Reathal dies in 1978. v. FLORENCE INES L. Notes for FLORENCE INES L. PEARCE: Charles and Florence Ines Wise apparently lived their whole lives in Christian County, MO. They can be located in the county from the date of the marriage through 1930 census records and both are buried in Wise Hill Cemetery. The children from the census records are appended by those named in the obituary. Below is the obituary for Florence. Billings: Mrs. Florence I. PEARCE: Burial: Wise Hill Cemetery, Christian County, MO vi. JAMES LEONARD PEARCE, b. 1901, Christian County, MO. Notes for JAMES LEONARD PEARCE: In the 1920 Census of Christian County, Leonard is living with brother Wesley and his wife Ida. According to family members, Leonard never married and died fairly young. 3. ALICE2 ROGERS (JAMES ANSEL1) was born Apr 1878 in Greene or Christian County, MO. She married CHARLES HENRY 29 Jan 1896 in Stone County, MO10. He was born Aug 1872 in Iowa, and died Bet. 1907 - 1910 in Stone County, MO. Notes for ALICE ROGERS: Alice and her husband Charles Henry can be found living in the Washington Township of Stone County, Missouri in the 1900 census. The census indicates she is the mother of three children of which two are presently alive (Anna and Jessie). Charles and Annie are living next door to her parents, James and Elizabeth Rogers. Charles dies sometime between the birth of his youngest child in 1908 and the 1910 census where his wife is noted as a "widow". In that year, Alice can be found living with her parents in McKinley Township of Stone County, MO. Here, the records indicate she is the mother of six children of which five are alive. Only the two younger ones (Charles and Martha) are with her. From the 1900 census, we know about two more children -- Annie and Jessie. This accounts for four of the six. The 1910 census contains clues as to the fifth. In this year, apparently Alice has allowed two of her children to be "adopted" by other families in the counties. At this stage, the reason is unknown but Jessie can be found living with a family of Fitzsimmons and a young boy named Albert Henry can be found in the same township living with a Pierce family. Given the notations made about his birth place and that of his parents, it is almost certain he is the fifth child. Annie although only 14 is already married in 1910. Alice either dies between 1910 and 1920 or remarries and moves out of the county. Children of ALICE ROGERS and CHARLES HENRY are: i. ANNIE3 HENRY11, b. 1897, Stone County, MO; m. HENRY EUTSLER; b. 1879. Notes for ANNIE HENRY: Annie is the oldest daughter of Alice and Charles Henry. She is born shortly after their marriage. Annie marries very young and can be found in Ruth Township of Stone county in 1910 with her husband Henry Eutsler (the spellng appears to be something like Ochslar). They have been married less than a year. By 1920, Annie is a widow and is living in Stone County with her two children Troy and Estella. Additionally, her grandfather James Rogers is living with them. ii. JESSIE HENRY11, b. May 1899, Stone County, MO. Notes for JESSIE HENRY: Sometime after 1900, Jessie is sent to live with Frank Fitzsimmons and his wife, Maggie in Stone County. (Frank and Maggie's name is spelled both Fitzsimmons and Fitzmaurice in various records). Although only speculative, it may be that when her father died, Alice (her mother) sent the two older children away to live with other people. iii. MARTHA E. HENRY12, b. 1905, Stone County, MO. Notes for MARTHA E. HENRY: Martha is born about 1905 and can be found living with her Mother in the 1910 Census of Stone County, MO. In the 1920 census of Stone County, she is living in the home of Newt and Martha Bruffett and is noted as their "servant". iv. ALBERT HENRY, b. 1906, Stone County, MO. Notes for ALBERT HENRY: Naming Albert as a child of Alice Rogers and Charles Henry is somewhat speculative however like his sister Jessie, he has been "adopted out" to a family in 1910. He can be found here living with Webster and Anatha Pierce in the Ruth Township (the same township as Jessie) and the indication of birth places for him (Missouri), his father (Iowa) and mother (Missouri) matches Charles and Alice. At this stage the proof is reasonable though as yet circumstantial. v. CHARLES W. HENRY12, b. 1908, Stone County, MO. Endnotes 1. Sullivan County , TN Marriage Records. 2. Yes we are doing okay. Bill had his heart surgery April 28 and is doing okay so far. It was a new kind for atrial fib called atrial fib ablation, where they go in with 10 wires through the femoral artery and the carotid artery and shock the parts of the heart that are not working right. Only the top of his heart was working, so his heart was beating very fast, but not exchanging the blood through the bottom chambers, so it made him short of breath so bad he could not do anything. It was caused from when he had the Tuberculin Meningitis in 2000 that disabled him. He had gone into congestive heart failure at St. John's and had trouble again at Mayo in Minnesota and it had just gotten worse and finally showed up on his EKG as atrial fib a year ago. We had to wait a year for the surgery because there are only 2 doctors in Springfield that do it and they only do a few a month because they take so long to do. Bill's surgery was 6 1/2 hrs and they burnt 10 places his heart was not working right. He had his first checkup and passed it okay. He has another in Sept. and if it is okay, he may get off of some of the medication. They have him on 12 pills and coumadin to keep his blood thin, so he won't clot and have a stroke. The longer he is on the medicine the more chance he has of having a stroke and the more trouble he had breathing, so he was ready to have the surgery as soon as he found out about it. He said it was an easy surgery, but laying on your back for 16hrs. was the hardest. He has arthritis in his back and knee now and has more trouble with it than anything and hasn't been able to pitch horseshoes because of his knee, so that really makes him mad. I retired in 2002 to take care of him and I had 23yrs in at St. John's and you can retire at 55, so I did. The work loads in intensive care were just too much for me and trying to take care of Bill too was too much stress on my health. I have fibromyalgia and the stress was making it worse, and the doctor thought I would be better if I was off my feet and not under all of the stress of the intensive care work. I have done a lot better since I quit working. The neurologist found nerve damage in my leg from the fibromyalgia and that was causing all the pain and now I can pace myself and don't have to take any meds for that. St. John's could not find another job I could transfer to because I made too much money and they won't let you take a cut in pay, so I just took the retirement. I work on my quilts, my genealogy, and enjoy my 6 grandkids and Bill and I have time to fish and run around. I substitute for the secretary at the First Baptist Church when she is gone and I am VBS crafts director, in the Womens Mission and we do the Christmas store so we have a lot of sewing for that, and we keep the Pregnancy Center at Aurora supplied with baby layettes, mothers baskets, crochet afghans for the babies, and I make flags for all the soldiers families that are sent overseas as one of my projects, so I keep busy . Didn't have time to go to church when I was working and I missed that. I have written 2 family histories and published them so far and working on my 3rd one and I wrote several for the history books for my son in laws family when they published the new ones. His grandmother is the Eutsler I was looking for. I had the Wm B. Singer info, but thanks for looking. We thought maybe his grandmother might be related to the Eutsler's in Stone co. somehow, since his dad was born in Galena in 1931. Keep your eyes open in case you run across Charles Eutsler in you research. Thanks for the help. Hope you are both well. Tell Noel to call Bill sometime. He is always trying to find someone to go fishing with him. He sold his old bass boat and got a 17' Ranger and likes it a lot better. 723-0081 ----- Original Message ----- From: <NBJHENRY@aol.com> To: <MOSTONE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2006 10:04 AM Subject: Re: [MOSTONE-L] Eutsler family > Hello Judy > > Yes you have the right Betty/Noel Henry. Judy, I did some searching for your Eutsler. Charles Eutsler, I could not find, but I did find the following that might help you in your searches. Perhaps you may already know it. 1910 CENSUS: William B. Singer (head) Caroline (wife) Bertha Eutsler, daughter Effie (granddaughter) Thelma (granddaughter) Etie (grandaughter) Liba (granddaughter) Edith (granddaughter) So, apparently Bertha is listed with her parents. I could not find Charles, only in a Civil War Service Record and not sure if it is who you are looking for. It states Charles Eutsler, Company A, 11 Iowa Infantry, Private, Union. So maybe Charles died in the civil war? Good luck in your searches, Betty J. (Martin) Henry
Hello Judy Yes you have the right Betty/Noel Henry. I have been doing geneology for a number of years but have to say that a few of my lines are not where I would like to see them. I'm searching a family of Rogers who moved there between 1860-1870. James Ansel Rogers lived in Stone, Christian and Greene counties until his death likely between 1920-1930. James' children lived in the area marrying into the Pearce, Eutsler, Henry and Condor families. Does anyone know these folks ? Descendants of James Ansel Rogers Generation No. 1 1. Stories of "Indian blood" persist in members of James' family to the present. Children of JAMES ROGERS and ELIZABETH GOOD are: 2. i. NANCY MARGARET2 ROGERS, b. Apr 1865, Sullivan County, TN; d. 28 Mar 1942, Marionville, Greene County, MO. ii. THOMAS FRANKLIN ROGERS, b. 1868. iii. SAMUEL ROGERS, b. 1869. iv. WILLIAM HENRY ROGERS, b. 1875. 3. v. ALICE ROGERS, b. Apr 1878, Greene or Christian County, MO. vi. MARTHA E ROGERS, b. Feb 1882; m. JOHN CURTIS; b. Jun 1873. (?? Not 100% sure this is the right one!) Generation No. 2 2. NANCY MARGARET2 ROGERS (JAMES ANSEL1) was born Apr 1865 in Sullivan County, TN, and died 28 Mar 1942 in Marionville, Greene County, MO2. She married GRANVILLE H. Wesley dies in Kansas (Labette County) in 1981. iv. REATHAL M. PEARCE, b. 09 Mar 1896, Christian County, MO; d. Feb 1978, Taneyville, Taney County, MO; m. ROBERT M. SELLARS, 15 May 1913, Christian County, MO. Notes for REATHAL M. PEARCE, b. 24 Mar 1899, Christian County, MO; d. 28 Apr 1971, Christian County, MO6; m. CHARLES WISE, 31 Dec 1914, Christian County, MO7; b. 08 Dec 18878; d. 09 Sep 1975, Christian County, MO8,9. Florence I. Wise, 72, of Route 2, Billings, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield. Surviving are her husband, Charlie; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Hutter and Mrs. Merle Hutter, both of Billings; four sons, Ezra, Billings, Day, Aurora, and Floyd and Clelly Joe, both of Springfield; a sister, Mrs. Reathel Williams, of Aurora; a brother, Wesley Pearce, Baxter Springs, Kan.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cantrell Chapel, Billings, with the Rev. Richard Kellough officiating. Burial will be in Wise Hill Cemetery. Note: this clipping from the collection of Audrey (King) Maples has a handwritten date of May 28, 1971 in the margin. Contributed by Rada Beth (Hayden) Maples. More About FLORENCE INES L. 2. Missouri State Death Records. 3. Cemetery Records: Wise Hill Cemetery Christian County, MO. 4. Christian County, MO Marriage Records. 5. Cemetery Records: Delaware Cemetery Christian County, MO. 6. Family Information - Mary Lou Wise Hutter. 7. Marriage Records Christian County, MO, Date in the marriage records is 12/31/1914 -- internet records state 12/18. 8. FYI. I obtained a certificate of death for my grandmother, who was born 1892 and died 1951 from Missouri Department Health and Senior Services, PO Box 570, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0570, which provided helpful information about where she was born and who her parents were. It cost $19.95 to obtain the certificate. Hopefully, this will help some. Betty J. (Martin) Henry
Hi Robin, Sorry to hear about your computer. I have a large Family Tree Maker genealogy file, mostly derived from your wonderful census analyses. Let me if that data would help you restore your files. I am researching Joseph "Joe" and Nancy Rodgers (Rogers) Lassiter. I have been told that Joe was a blacksmith in the 1860 census with Nancy and their daughter Purity Angeline in Lawrence County, Mo. That he was dead and she was living in Stone County, Mo. It is possible she went to Stone County after his death because she had family there. I was told that Joe may have been killed in the civil war; but I do not know that. I am blocked on this family and I wanted to see if anyone out there has any info that could help me out. I appreciate your time. By the way I have really enjoyed your county website, I think it is one of the easiest to get around in. Hope someone can help me out. Shirley Grant Farrell
Does anyone out there have easy access to an obit for a Henry Eutsler who died on 15 Jun 1966 in Greene County. He was born in 1878. I'd be most appreciative !! Janene, Thank you for the offer. I should be ok for right now. I am frantically inputing everything I can get my hands on from my own files..plus taking info from my books. I should be able to put things back together before long. Robin

My fellow MOSTONERS, For some great peace of mind, I recently subscribed to an online storage service, "Pedigree Vault", where I can backup my genealogy data, documents, pictures and any files I'd hate to lose to a power surge, harddrive crash or my house burning down. The site is very simple and easy to use. It would be inappropriate, so, I won't quote a price here, but for a very reasonable cost you can rent 1 gigabyte of space for a year. I sure sleep alot better now!
