Dear Jo and Josephine, Thank you both for replying to my question. I just realized that I simply didn't put enough information in my query. Let me see if I can do better this time. I just found out that one of the cousins was killed at Guadalcanal. I don't have any idea if he was buried there or brought back to the states for burial. I don't even have an exact date of death. Even if a young man died on foreign soil you would think that a death certificate would be issued somewhere. I tried a while back I tried to get WW II service records and I was told that most of them were destroyed in a fire so now I am looking for alternative ideas. I may try again but I don't hold out much hope. Thanks so much for your kind concern. Pam
This isn't really a Stone County question but I hope that someone out there can help me. If a person died overseas in WWII where would you find a death certificate for him. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Pam
Hi Fae, I don't know if there is any relationship but our George Ann Scott (b.1853) married a Samuel Cope. According to George Ann's obituary, which is on the Stone County web site, she had 4 daughters and 6 sons but the obituary didn't list the children's names. It would really be great if you could fill in some of our missing pieces. I must have hit delete one to many times. I missed out on the Estes's you are looking for. I have several Estes's in my files. One John Estes born in 1818. His fathers' name was William. They are out of Kentucky. Is this the group you are looking for??? Penny
Marie, Afraid I don't have much more information on John Estes than the basics you provided. I did a quick search over in Shannon Co, and didn't come up with anything. I do know that there is still some Estes families who live over there. I think we talked about it awhile back. There is a Missouri Estes ...of course, not the same one..but I bet she was named after this one!! I have no further info on John W. Below is information sent.!! hi how about someone looking for my ancestor,JOHN WESLEY ESTES born 1824,judge in stone county from 1867 to 1887,I would appreciate it,and I believe he was a old settler, thank you mariesweet@aol.com Please don't cry--we are here. I am still trying to find Judge Estes (John W) that lived right across the street from the court house back in 1869 through 1880--He is as illusive as everyone else's ancestors. Please, does anyone know anything regarding him during this time? Surely there would be a record somewhere of all the judges at Galena? Would love to have the one on John. Thanks for all your help. Thanks to all of you, the William Hurst family has been claimed! High bidders were Joan Justice and Ray Gold who went to great lengths to send information so that this family could remain a part of the Old Settlers of Stone Co.!!! There are still some members of this family who are unaccounted for, but, hopefully we will locate them too! The Davis family found themselves in the middle of all this, and thankfully, we were able to get some new information on them as well!! Information was also received on the Thomas Brown family!!! Thanks to all of you who participated!!! :} Robin Mindvoice@msn.com http://members.xoom.com/Robid/Page_1.htm http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~biddle/settlers.htm
