JO, Since most of those old photos were taken in a studio, the photographer probably used his Photo Albums as a prop..and as advertising.! There is a new photo in the Stone County Album of James Albert Byrd and Nancy Jane Stansberry. Our thanks to James Furry who sent it to us, and to Janice Johnson Craig who is the owner of the photo. If you look at the photo you will notice that Nancy Jane is holding what looks like a large book. I have seen many old photos in which the lady is sometimes holding a big book. Matter of fact that one of my own old photos shows gg-grandma holding a big book. In her case I was told it was the family Bible. I wanted to take a moment and publicly thank Cliff Bowlin for sharing information about the World War II website. As it turns out our cousin served in the Navy. He died in the Battle of Guadalcanal and was buried at sea. His name, however, is inscribed on the "Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines" which Cliff was kind enough to tell me about. My sincere thanks, Pam Coones

Hello Pam, Since this information is relatively new, I thought I would share it with the list as well as you, Pam. My brother was killed on Vella La Vella, Solomon Island, 4 Nov 1943. This island is near Guadalcanal. He is buried at Fort McKinley, United States Cemetery, Manila, Philippine Islands. This cemetery has been renamed the Manila American Cemetery. There is a good chance that your cousin is also buried there. Recently, the "American Battle Monuments Commission," started a web sit at http://www.abmc.gov/ You can find a search engine for WW II overseas burials at http://www.americanwardead.com/searchww.htm I expect you will probably find you cousin listed. Sincerely, Cliff Bowlin Colorado Springs
