    3. Hi All, I just recently joined this list - & thought I'd throw out my primary Stone County Surnames, as well as LEONARD & HENDRICKSON. I am trying to find a map that shows the Township boundaries in relation to the census'. Does anyone have a link for one? Based on your recent emails, it appears you are a fairly active message group & certainly try to help each other. That's great news! Joy

    3. Thank you Jim for the article. It was tear jerking and very interesting. I do not have anyone buried there that I know of, however this really angered me about their doing that to a cemetery! Glad to see it is being rectified. 3. Message text written by INTERNET:MOSTONE-L@rootsweb.com >If anyone can shed any light on Mahala Pearl Ruckman I will be very grateful.< Mickey, My gg grandfather was George Washington Overstreet b 1844 Vernon Co. MO d 1922 Stone Co. MO. His first wife was Mary Ruckman, and they were md in 1863 in Greene Co. MO. Mary Ruckman's family lived in Lawrence Co. MO in the 1860 and 1877 census. Her father was Luke b 1814 KY. There is a Ruckman cemetery in Lawrence Co., somewhere around Marionville. Although I have no info on your Mahala, the name is not necessarily common in the area, and I think they are all the same family. I've not fully explored it, since Mary Ruckman is not my gg grandmother and I'm brickwalled on her successor. A lot of folks lived in the Marionville area, which isn't all that far from the Stone Co. line, and if your Mahala is kin to my George Overstreet by marriage, it would set a precedent for her being born or living in Stone County--he was there in the 1890 Special Vets Census. 3. Seems some of my info didn't get sent to you. Pearl married John Wesley Yocum at Radical, Stone County on Oct. 9, 1904. I know they married young in early times but 5 seems a bit early!!! The death certificate was signed by her second husband who might have been mistaken on birth year. John Wesley was born in Stone County in 1876 and died there in 1946. He was oldest son of Joseph Ypcum and Matilda Gibson. Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: MICKEY <meroth@the-cia.net> To: mostone-l@rootsweb.com <mostone-l@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, April 28, 2000 12:22 PM Subject: Ruckman Hi List, This is my first request to you. I need help finding the family of my grandmother,Mahala Pearl Ruckman. This is what I have found: Death certificate shows birth Aug. 11, 1899 in Missouri She died Dec. 22, 1940 in Polk County Missouri. Sometime after 1910 she left Yocum with three young boys(one was my father). Thry were told nothing about their mother. It seems Pearl may have had at least two brothers, Jim and Wess, who went to California and died there. If anyone can shed any light on Mahala Pearl Ruckman I will be very grateful. Mickey

    3. Hello again List!! It's me again!!! Guess what?????? I found another family that no-one seems to claim!! This wonderful old family appears on the 1860 Pierce Twp of Stone Co. I know that descendants of this family still live in the area..but..for some reason, they have failed to lay claim to their ancestors!! Welp, the obvious has happened!! They are going up for Auction so that some loving researcher can take them home and love them!! For newbies..the Auction works like this: I will post the family census data below. In order to "Bid" , you must send any information you have on the family to the list. The one who sends the most info (highest bidder) wins the Auction and gets to claim the family as their Old Settlers of Stone Co! Maiden names, marriage info, birth and death info, burial, are all excepted as bids! Here is the family!!! 254 PACKWOOD PARRINGTON? 48 FARMER TN R? 41 TN PARRINGTON 11 CA ARCHIBALD 7 MO MARTHA 4 MO LARKIN 83 BOARDER VA GOOD LUCK!!! 3. Dear List, This past weekend I made a trip to Stone Co. in hopes of doing some work on my Old Settlers. While there, I stopped in to return some books to Ruth Asher. For those of you who know Ruth, and those of you who have received help with research from her, I thought I would let you know that she fell last week and fractured her hip! Please keep her in your prayers!! She is using a walker to get around the house and determined to keep going!! At 85 yrs of age, Ruth is a real treasure to Stone Co. researchers!! 2. Dear List, I am trying to figure out the coding that I found on the Cemetery section of the Stone Co. webpage. I believe it refers to the Civil War, as my ancestor died in 1882. Co. H. 7, E, M.M. The above was engraved in his tombstone. I guess it is Company H, but then what? Anyone have books or websites that deal with this coding? Thank you, Cheri Mello

    3. Cheri, This might make sense. Company H 7th Regiment Enrolled Missouri Militia. These were Union units. These units were similar to todays National Guard. They rarely, if ever, left the state and were mainly short term units activated when there was possible trouble in the area. 3. Jo, This is the ultimate! Very interesting and reminded me of a lady who lived near us in Kansas who had an Iris Garden. Her name was Alice Carrow, I think. If memory serves me right (which I doubt) she was a retired librarian. Anyway when she passed away and others bought her place, they gave away hybrid Iris bulbs. I was lucky enough to obtain some, but alas they were left in Ks. when we moved to Az. :-(. Jean WATKINS SHERWOOD in Az.
