The Gale Directory of Publications has more current nespapers. Many states also have a bibliography of newspapers. This was info that I got from a genealogy class that I took in 1992. Cheri Mello
Does anyone how to go about getting copies of any of these? My sister-in-law in Washington is wanting copies of these if possible. Told her I would check. Thanks, Pama Brown, George J. Also, doesn't Columbia University have a large collection of Missouri newspapers on microfilm? They inter-library loan, also, I think. I am trying to locate the ancestry of my g-gmother Elizabeth ("Lizabeth" "Lizzie") Murphy Hilton. She was born 6-5-1861 (also found year as 1859) in Texas (county unknown). She married Jonathan Tylor ("Berry" or "Barry") Hilton (b. 1848-d. 1919) in 1879 in Barry County. She is listed as his wife on the 1880 Census of Pierce Township/Stone Co. I know there is a MAY cemetery some where in that area....maybe someone knows if this might be what you are looking for.
When I was in Galena a few years ago, someone gave me a map of the cemeteries of Stone Co. It is NOT comprehensive. But it is better than nothing. It looks like the 248 or the 13 (it seems to change names and one highway is not marked on this map) go between Galena & Reeds Spring. The only cemetery they mark is #18, Hill (Railey Creek). It is right outside of Galena. Like I said, this map is NOT comprehensive, I'm sure there are others. Cheri Mello

Just a quick note as it's late to say Hi. I made a copy of the Bilyeu book at the library in Shell Knob. I'll look in it and see what I can find for you. I remember Eunice Hobbs, a very nice widow with a tragic loss of two daughters. I grew up 2 miles from her. My brother bought her farm after her death. Now as to Rebecca Leonard, In the Idaho family notes I referred to there is a Margaret Rebecca who died in 1933. On the 1860 census of the David Leonard family there is a Margaret age 12, certainly could have married in 1866. Do you know when your Rebecca Leonard died? I do not see her or James Hobbs listed in burials in McCullough. Rich None of the children of William Henry Leonard or George Redmond Leonard were old enough to marry in 1866. I have their pension requests. At 09:25 PM 04/29/2000 -0500, you wrote: >Well, just hot dog & grand sakes! I recently was told that my g-g-grandmother Luesia (Jones) CRON, wife of Francis Marion Cron, was buried on a farm next to the highway that runs from Galena to Reeds Spring. I believe it to be just a few miles from Galena, not far from the river. Does anyone know of an old cemetery or burial place in that area? I think she would have died in the 1880's. I would be grateful for any information or guesses.
Hi Joy, I too descend from the Leonard's. David Leonard is the common ancestor. His wife was Mary Sanders, sister to Peter Sanders. The two families migrated to Stone Co about 1848 (while still Taney of course) from Jackson Co Al. My Edwards also came from there, as well as the John Taylors and the Summers. 4 sons of David and Mary joined the 1st Ark Cav and died within a week of each other of pneumonia in Fayetteville about 1863. Can you imagine the shock to the parents!!! 2 of the brothers, William Henry (my ancestor) and George Redmond Leonard had small children when the brothers died. Another brother , Aaron Andrew Jackson Leonard, joined late in the war ,survived, and was the administrator for David when he died in 1880. Those records are in Barry Co. Aaron AJ moved to Tx and later to Idaho, had a large number of descendants, one of whom seems to have had the family bible based on the list of David and Mary's children I have. The Hobbs, Riders, Leonards, and Hendrickson's are in Mildred Roden's 'Our Bilyeu Family' since the Bilyeu's married into several of those families. These names are associated with the McCullough community and lived from Viola to Nauvoo in Williams township. So cousin, what is your connection to the Leonard's? Well, just hot dog & grand sakes! I sure didn't think I'd get this lucky so soon! On Easter Sunday, I took notes from the family Bible of Eunice RIDER. If I did my notes correctly - it shows: William (Bill) LEONARD as father of Rebecca LEONARD a note shows - brothers (remembered) Jack & Bill Rebecca LEONARD m James HOBBS Barry County, MO 1866 children: George, Phil, Jim (James) Nancy, Maude, Louise, Ellen, John John E. HOBBS m Eunice RIDER d/o Eden(?) RIDER & Margaret HENDRICKSON I've been to McCullough cemetery, it's where many of the HOBBS family members are buried (along with many more). This is my husband's line, but thought I'd work on it awhile instead of head bashing on my own stuff against those brick walls! Where might I find this book you mentioned? Library? On line? Help, help! Now, if I can get my gene program uncrashed, I'll be sittin' tall. Rich, I read your note with interest and wondered if you might help me with the Leonard family. I have been struggling with them for quite awhile. My interest in them stems from the fact that they are early settlers of Stone Co and I have been trying to track those families.! I would appreciate any help you can give! I am particularly interested in maiden names, and marriage date if available! Can you tell me who Mary Sanders parents were?? Thanks in advance!
