    2. Dear Stone County folks, I was just at Little White Cemetery last week. The weeds are growing fast and the stones are deteriotating badly. My ancestors buried there are the Jones---William Riley, Sera, Florence, and William [Billy]. Floyd Compton and his brother who check on things occasionally are also relatives. Since I live in Tucson, my help is limited to financial, but I'd like to help. If this rings a bell for anyone on the list, please e-mail me. I would love to know who Wm. Riley's dad was. Names that have popped up of that era are Allen, Asa, Ace, and A.G. Do any of these names ring a bell? Good luck. Mary Ann Eberbach 841 E. Linda Vista Tucson, AZ 85737

    3. To Don McPeek: The Kimbeling Mill was built by Davis Kimberling, the story is in Stone County History Book Volume 1. His second wife was Anna (Morris) Kimberling, both are buried at Silver Lake. Annas daughter, Susan, married Ambrose Cloud, both of whom are also buried at Silver Lake along with son Ollis A. Cloud. In 1888 Davis deeded a plot of land to the Elders of the Christian Church and a building stipulating it was to be used as a church. The property was sold in 1995. I don't know the history of the church otherwise, perhaps someone else can tell us. Davis and Anna had no children but both had families by their first spouses. Do you have the Census records of 1860-1880 Stone County on Kimberlings? Davis was listed in 1860 in Cass Township with wife Rebecca and Elizabeth age 18, James age 6, and David age 7 months. Rebecca died between 1870 and 1880 as he was then listed with Dianna as wife. Hopefully this will help you some on this particlar Kimberling family, there were others in the southern part of the county, not known if they were related. Elba

    3. After reading Lois Watkins' message concerning the Gentry cemetery, thought I'd mention another isolated cemetery. The Lee's Cemetery, near Ponce de Leon. Calvin Cloud and many of his family are buried there. When I was there a couple of years ago, it was in terrible shape. I understand a disagreement later took place between the current owner and another nearby landowner who miscalculated easement rights and apparently wanted to bulldoze/plow--something destructive--right past and maybe through the cemetery. Haven't been back to see what happened, but don't believe the displacement took place. Imagine the cemetery is still topsy-turvy. It is such a historical landmark! Anyone who knows the Alf Bolin story would be thrilled to visit this eerie and beautiful locale. Am wondering if anyone is interested in helping to clean up the Lee Cemetery? Cheri Lungstrum P.S. There's also another cemetery--too lazy to look up name, think it's called Pleasant View--down by the Silver Spring/Kimberlin Mill Site that's not nearly as bad as the Lee's Cemetery, but could use a little sprucing up. It has the most beautiful peonies I've ever seen. The little white church next to it is where Jim Bakker's brother used to preach.

    3. The Stone County Historical/Genealogical Society, over the past year, has taken on the task of locating, attempting the restoration and preservation and marking of isolated graves and local cemeteries. This is an article that we put in the Crane Chronicle on February 3, 2000: "The Stone County Historical/Genealogical Society has had several calls and inquiries regarding the Gentry Cemetery which is located one and one-quarter miles east of Galena on Railey Creek. Concern has been expressed particularly because of the excavation presently taking place on the property. A member of the Society recently met with the present owner of the property and the owner says he is aware of the general location of the cemetery. He is very receptive to further research to specifically locate the graves. He is also receptive to the fencing in of the area once the graves are located." We did receive some response to this article but no actual help in grave location nor with fencing. Lois W Watkins watkins@inter-linc.net

    3. As I stated the Hembree is not my line but my husband's.This is about all I can tell you about them...Benjamin Franklin Hembree who married Minnie BURCHETT are the parents of Erma and Louis .Erma married William Alfred Peters.I am married to the only child of Erma and Alf's.Louis,Erma's brother was married but there were no children. I have heard Erma speak of the GENTRY connection..I think(?) that they may have been half-brothers or sisters to her Dad. Real fuzzy on this. BTW did you ever hear that the Hembrees were originally DOGGETTS? Erma said back there in a genearation or so before her Dad the kids were orphaned and adopted by the Hembrees. This interests me because of my children but I never found anyone else that could refute or even heard of such. We have Stone County History vols.1and 2. On page 309 is a picture of Bea Hembree.Erma knew of him and he was "kin". If you ever hear anything pertaining to Hembree-Doggett connection please give a holler. Bea

    3. I believe you are speaking of the other Gentry cemetery located 1 1/4 miles east of Galena on the old Jake Watts farm. It should be listed on the MoStone page, however it has: Gentry, Allen d 1848 age 56 years. M Gentry died 29 Jan 1872 age 75 years Hembree, Louis husband of F. died 6 Feb. 1882 age 76 years 11 mo 14 days H. Hembree died 13 April 1866 These four all all we know about. If you know of others the Historical Society would like to know, and any story connected with them. Thank you. Elba

    3. A few years back I saw an engraved stone bearing the name Louis HEMBREE while visiting my husband's uncle in Galena.Louis ( my husband's uncle) said it was from his grandfather or ggrandfather's grave. The stone was in good condition and the writing on it was plain.I have a snapshot of it "someplace." I s hould have asked how it came to be at Louis' place.I am the family researcher in this family and since it was a hurried visit and not my lineage I didn't ask!Should have! How do you connect with the Hembree line?My husband's mother was a Hembree. My children used to fish in Railey creek while visiting the grandparents. 3. Thanks to everyone that responded to my query on a burial outside Galena. I spoke with my sister and according to her the place where our gg grandmother was buried was next to Highway 13, first place on left after you cross Railey Creek bridge. According to her mother in law's brother there were once about twenty graves there. When they began to clear the field, they found one stone with the name "Hembree" on it and they took it and gave it to a Hembree in Galena. She had been told that the grave we are looking for would be under the barn which she understands is falling down. Now, is this the Railey Creek cemetary or was there another one in that area? Also, does anyone know if something can be done if these graves are found. Thanks
