Is Thomas a nephew to Charity Hammond who md Isaac William Bilyeu (aka "Ikey Bill"?) I believe the Bilyeu desc. of Isaac Bilyeu b 1780 and Mary Ann Workman b 1784 are Cherokee but I have no real proof. Just lots of rumors. I have hints on finding or trying to prove Cherokee heritage at my website, the White River Valley of MO & AR (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/ ) in which we currently are trying to cover 10 counties, 5 on each side of the state line. There is a mailing list, but I've not gotten the website revamped to hook up to it (mailto:MO-AR-WRV-L-request@rootsweb.com ) I bit off a big project when my feeble brain thought this a good idea! LOL The Cherokee page is for some reason not showing up on the main index page. (My husband was doing something to it the other night....uh oh.) It is still online, but apparently not on the main page. Here's the link: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~moarwrv/cherokee_melungeon.html I'm sorry. We are very new at this, and I guess I'm going to have to demote Greg from Webmaster status. arrrrrrrgh. Vonda

    3. Yes, Vonda; Charity was a sister to Adeline, my great-great grandmother!! I knew we were related "a little bit" to the Bilyeu's, but wasn't sure how! Thanks! I'll check those links! I have some locations of some of my Morgan-Hammond family that don't have markers...) >---------- >From: Vonda Sheets[SMTP:vonda@copper-turtle.com] >Reply To: MOSTONE-L@rootsweb.com >Sent: Monday, May 22, 2000 9:08 AM >To: MOSTONE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: RE: [MOSTONE-L] Re: GARRISON > >>My great-grandfather, Thomas Lonnie Hammond, was supposed to be 1/2 (from >Taney County in the late 1800's), but I can't find any records ascertaining >that.< > >Linda, >Didn't we discuss the Hammonds some time ago? 3. Vonda: Were you able to prove your Cherokee ancestry? Are you registered with the Cherokee Tribe in Oklahoma or the Northern Cherokees in Missouri? I'm wondering if you had any tips on how to get information for verification of Indian ancestry. My great-grandfather, Thomas Lonnie Hammond, was supposed to be 1/2 (from Taney County in the late 1800's), but I can't find any records ascertaining that. Just wondering if you had any ideas (don't mean to be nosy!) 3. The Society would be most happy to receive any documentation or pictures. You can mail them to The Stone County Historical Society, Box 63, Galena, Mo 65656 or if you are in Galena just leave them in an envelope for us at the Stone County Library. Several of us will be at the Yocum Pond Cemetery, located in Reeds Spring, on Saturday, May 27th, for a "dinner on the grounds" and a dedication of the new arch which was recently installed there. Bring a picnic basket lunch, a lawn chair and come join us! Lois W Watkins watkins@inter-linc.net President, Stone County Historical Society

    1. [MOSTONE-L] Memorial Day & Stone Co. Gen & historical Society.
    2. Dear Jean: I 'm not sure if you are the correct person to write to, however, I saw no email address for the Stone Co Historical Society, so I wanted to get this to someone. Hopefully you can forward it to the right person(s) This next Friday, May 25, I will be coming from Calif. to assist my 3rd cousins in celebrating o f the recent placing a headstone on our Great Great Grandmother's recently located Grave. She being Mary Margaret Clark Nickerson Born: Feb 13, 1852 in Fulton Co, ILL Died: Nov 28, 1938 in Reed Springs, Stone Co, MO M,ary was a mid-wife in Stone County and assisted in delivering many ancestors of Stone Co. Mary is buried in the Nickerson Cem. between Kimberling City and Reed Springs. Next to her Husband Joshua Nickerson b. 1844 in Brown, CO, Indiana d. 1930 in Reed Springs, Stone Co., MO Joshua is a Union civil War Veteran of the 103rd Regiment of Ill. Joshua helped his father Isaac build the Log Cabin built pre-1862, built by Joshua and his father Isaac for shelter for hunting, now sits on parking lot of Kimberling City Golf Course, Stone Co., MO. (there is a historical marker noting this in front of the cabin). Joshua & Mary moved their young family to Stone Co., permanently sometime between 1870 & 1880. My cousins & I would like to document this finding of the grave (it was unmarked until recently) for the Stone Co., Historical Society. Also, I have copies of several letters from residence of Stone Co., MO shortly after my Grandparents, Arthur Lee Crabtree & Viola Nickerson moved their young family from Stone Co., to No. California during the depression era. I would gladly donate these copies if the society is interested. I hope you know who to send this to, as time is running short. Nonetheless, I assure you we will take many pictures. sincerely yours, Dawna J. Vicars 3056 Studebaker Rd.
